The famous rose water, which is used all over the world today, was obtained a thousand years ago by the brilliant Arab doctor Avicenna, and this is how oriental fragrant inventions can be multiplied.

Unique aromatic notes in Arabic perfumes

Interestingly, perfumes were not tied to gender, fragrances were always above separation. And although floral fragrances are most often chosen by women today, it is in the Arab countries that rose oil is still widely used by men, preferably scenting their beards with it. But it has nothing to do with the delicate fragrance of May roses from the French fields of Grasse. This is a sensual, rich and strong fragrance derived from a 30-petal damask rose harvested from the Taif Valley in Saudi Arabia. The city is located at an altitude of 1800 m above sea level in a desert landscape, hiding the flowers that have grown on the steep slopes of the mountains. Perhaps it is this unusual location and climate that gives the rose a completely different smell here. The petals are harvested by hand shortly before sunrise, when the concentration of aromatic oil is at its highest. The prices for such an ingredient are exorbitant, as well as for another no less unusual flavor obtained from the agar tree. This is about oud one of the most important fragrances in Arabic perfumery. Where is it from? Well, a tree infected with the corresponding type of fungus slowly changes, giving an unusual resinous substance. And be careful, the price per gram of this fragrant resin is more expensive than gold.

Among the most commonly used oriental notes, one should also mention amber, musk and jasmine. And these truly Arabic traditional fragrances are usually available in the form of an essential oil (alcohol is prohibited in Arab countries) and sold in beautiful, ornate bottles. They are completely different from European minimalist sprays. And because of the oily consistency, they are applied only to the body. This is another difference. The compositions smell differently, slowly appear on the skin and stay on it longer. Alcohol-based eau de parfum should only be applied to clothing to enhance the effect of the oil applied to the skin. The two-step application of fragrance is a natural activity in the Eastern world. It gives an extraordinary enveloping effect, the durability of the composition of notes and makes the enchanting aura float on the body. What flavors are worth trying out for yourself?
