ART - cruise control distance rule

The distance adjustment is mainly installed on Mercedes trucks, but can also be installed on cars: it makes it easier for the driver when driving on motorways and expressways. If ART detects a slower vehicle in its lane, it automatically brakes until a predetermined safety distance from the driver is reached, which then remains constant. To do this, every 50 milliseconds, a distance sensor scans the road in front of your vehicle, measuring the distance and relative speed of vehicles in front using three radar cones.

ART measures relative speed with an accuracy of 0,7 km / h. When there is no vehicle in front of your vehicle, ART works like traditional cruise control. In this way, the automatic distance control helps the driver, especially when driving on busy roads with medium to heavy traffic, by eliminating the need to perform most of the braking during deceleration in order to adapt his speed to the speed of the vehicles in front. In this case, the deceleration is limited to approximately 20 percent of the maximum braking power.
