It's not what I expected from a car with a coupe body line. After a few days of driving the new Audi A7, I did not want to get behind the wheel - I preferred to entrust this task to a computer.

Fortunately, the day improved the image of the Ingolstadt 4-door coupe. On October 19, 2017, the second generation of this model was shown to the world. New Audi A7. it has a lot in common with its predecessor, but is no longer as shocking. It looks much lighter, so it should appeal to a wider audience. The only thing that saddens me is that he lost his personality a bit in the Audi range. Almost everyone will find a lot in common with the older brother, the Audi A8 model. Not surprising. After all, both cars are reminiscent of the Prologue Coupe concept.

What is Audi A7?

Technically it's a liftback, but Audi prefers to call model A7 "4-door coupe". OK let it be.

How does it happen in Audi, the front of the car is dominated by a huge grille. Headlights are no less interesting, but about them later. True, I do not have a very developed sense of aesthetics, but even two “soap dishes” in the middle of the grill annoy me. They play an important role as the security radars are behind them, but the disgust remains.

Our test instance Audi A7 it is equipped with the S line package, which significantly affects its appearance. Thanks to him, we get, among other things, a more predatory look of bumpers.

In the profile A7 gets the most. Long hood, big rims, small windows and a sloping roofline - that's what you buy this model for! An interesting addition is the tailgate spoiler, which extends automatically at higher speeds. In the city, we can catapult it with a button on the touch screen.

The previous generation was the most controversial in the rear - the new model has adopted this feature. This time we will talk about lamps. It doesn’t look very good in pictures, but live (and especially after dark) the Audi A7 wins a lot. I just can’t understand why the exhaust pipes are not visible in the back of the coupe-liner ... The designers did not even try to use a dummy ...

And there was light!

Describing this car, I could not stop at the lamps - both front and rear. In my opinion, headlights play a big role in every car, especially in new A7.

Once xenon was the pinnacle of my dreams. Today they don't impress anyone. Now that almost every car can be equipped with LED headlights, lasers are impressive. New Audi A7. it can be equipped with such a solution "only" for PLN 14. At Audi, this is called HD Matrix LED with laser illumination. Daytime running lights, dipped beam, direction indicators and high beams are implemented using LEDs. We can't change how the laser works, but maybe that's a good thing. It starts and goes out by itself when we turn on the automatic high beam. Is it worth paying extra for this solution? Honestly, no. The laser is only an addition to the LED high beam. His work is visible on a straight road, where there is a narrow, strong, additional beam of light. The laser range is much better than that of LEDs, but its narrow range is unfortunately of little use. I was much more impressed by the smoothness and accuracy of the automatic high beam, which always perfectly “cut out” all cars from the “far” range.

Audi engineers have prepared another surprise - a light show to welcome and say goodbye to the car. When the vehicle is opened or closed, the front and rear lights turn individual LEDs on and off, creating a brief but breathtaking spectacle. I like it!

A7as he claims Audi, has a coupe-like line, therefore it is associated with sports. For this reason, the seats are slightly lower than in the aforementioned A8 and A6. This makes the driving position really comfortable.

A sloping roofline can create a problem, namely a lack of headroom. There is no tragedy, although it could always be better. I am 185 cm tall, and I ended up in the front without any problems. What about the back? There is plenty of room for the legs, but there is room for the head - let's just say: just right. Tall people may already have a problem.

measurements Audi A7 has a length of 4969 1911 mm and a width of 2914 mm. The wheelbase is mm. Four people can travel in this car in very comfortable conditions. I mention this because Audi A7 as standard, it is homologated for just four people. However, for an additional PLN 1680 we can have a 5 person version. It will not be easy for the fifth person, unfortunately, because the central tunnel is huge, and the large air conditioning panel does not make it easier ...

What's with the trunk? When you swing your foot under the bumper, the tailgate automatically rises. Then we see 535 liters of space, which is exactly the same as in the first generation. Fortunately, the coupe-like lineup doesn't mean zero practicality. It is very good! That's why that A7 This is a liftback, the tailgate rises with the windshield. All this leads to a very large boot opening.

I'll take a minute to pay attention to the Bang & Olufsen Advanced Sound System with 3D sound for 36 thousand. zloty! For this price, we get 19 speakers, a subwoofer and amplifiers with a total output of 1820 watts. The sound produced by this system is phenomenal. Sounds clean throughout the volume range, but there's a catch - it's definitely not the loudest set I've heard. Burmester Mercedes sounds much louder.

And here comes the problem...

On the trunk of the checked by us Audi A7 there is an inscription 50 TDI. This means that we use a 3.0 TDI engine with 286 hp. and a maximum torque of 620 Nm. Power is transmitted through Quattro all-wheel drive and an 8-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission. We accelerate to hundreds in 5,7 seconds, and the maximum speed is 250 km / h. In the fight for the lowest fuel consumption, Mild Hybrid technology helps, thanks to which the car can completely turn off the engine while driving. Fuel consumption is very good for this performance. On the highway between Krakow and Kielce, when driving according to the regulations, I got 5,6 liters! In the city, fuel consumption rises to 10 liters.

I have no objections to the culture of the engine, although at the same time Audi We tested the new Volkswagen Touareg with a deceptively similar drive - 3.0 TDI 286 KM, all-wheel drive and an 8-speed automatic. The VW unit worked noticeably velvet.

New Audi A7. equipped with auxiliary systems under the roof. We have 24 sensors and 39 driver assistance systems on board. That's where the problem comes in. Combined with the comfortable suspension and neutral (albeit very precise) steering, it doesn't feel like driving pleasure that I would expect from a coupe-like car... After a few days of driving this car, I didn't want to get into it. – I preferred to entrust this task to the computer.

New Audi A7. costs from 244 zlotys. Then we can choose two engines: 200 TDI with 40 hp. or 204 TFSI with 45 hp. We get an automatic transmission as standard. The price of the tested version, that is, the 245 TDI Quattro Tiptronic, costs a minimum of PLN 50, while the test version - a very well equipped unit - costs almost PLN 327. zloty

The market for 4-door coupes is constantly growing. The biggest competitor Audi A7 there is a Mercedes CLS, for which we will pay at least 286 thousand in a car dealership. zloty. An interesting, although much more expensive offer is also the Porsche Panamera - its price starts from PLN 415.

After the sporty design, I expected a sporty (for a 3 liter diesel) driving experience. However, I found something else. The multitude of driving assistance systems in this type of car is, in my opinion, a shot in the foot. At the moment Audi A7 I will remember him as a rather soft but perfect companion for long journeys. But that's not what I expect from a car with such looks... Let's hope that the new Audi S7 and RS7 will cause more emotions.
