Audi adds Apple Music integration for 2022 models

Audi is upgrading its MMI infotainment system to directly access Apple Music in its cars. Infotainment integration reduces the need to use smartphone mirroring such as Apple CarPlay or Android Auto to access popular streaming services.

Smartphone mirroring via Apple CarPlay has spread to almost every new car in the US. But automakers don't stop there: some OEMs offer music service integration directly through Apple CarPlay, their infotainment system, and Audi is the latest to jump in. system. fight.

Audi updates MMI infotainment system

On Thursday, Audi announced that it will offer integration with Apple Music directly through the latest version of its MMI infotainment system. The add-on will be offered free of charge for "nearly all" 2022 Audi vehicles, according to the automaker. Vehicles that already have owners must receive the same software via an over-the-air update. This applies to Audi in Europe, North America and Japan.

Access Apple Music without using Android Auto or Apple CarPlay

Instead of relying on a smartphone's tethered connection to access a user's Apple Music library, the Audi setup allows the owner to bypass this and access directly via the MMI. This means that the data will be transmitted through the vehicle's built-in modem and is therefore dependent on any data packages the owner has purchased for their vehicle. If you don't have a data subscription for your car, Android Auto will still work to access Apple Music.

It's not hard to set everything up. Once the app is installed, users can enter their Apple ID and complete the process with two-factor authentication. After that, it is enough to get into the car every morning and press the screen a couple of times.
