Audi RS Q8: Cousin of Urus - Preview

For the first time in the 25-year history of Audi RS models, we have created an SUV coupé with the DNA of a true sports car.", With these words, Oliver Hoffmann, CEO of Audi Sport GmbH presented its world premiere, al Los Angeles Auto Show 2019, the new Audi RS Q8.

V8 4.0 TFSI with 48-volt hybrid system

V8 4.0 TFSI from new Audi RS Q8 it develops 600 hp. and 800 Nm of torque in the range from 2.200 to 4.500 rpm. With this supersport powertrain, the Four Rings SUV coupe accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 3,8 seconds, which is 13,7 seconds to reach 200 km / h. Top speed is electronically limited to 250 km / h. plus, a speed of 305 km / h can be reached on request.

Thanks to its 48V biturbo main electrical system, the V8 combines exceptional performance with high efficiency. The belt-driven starter-generator (RSG) is the heart of the Mild Hybrid System (MHEV). In the deceleration phases, up to 12 kW of power can be restored: this energy is stored in a special lithium-ion battery, from which it is subsequently transferred to devices integrated into the on-board network. If the driver releases the accelerator pedal at speeds between 55 and 160 km / h, the new RS Q8 can coast in neutral or coast with the engine off for up to 40 seconds. In everyday driving, Audi says MHEV technology reduces fuel consumption by up to 0,8 liters per 100 kilometers.

COD (Cylinder On Demand) technology also makes a decisive contribution to the reduction in fuel consumption, which deactivates cylinders 2,3, 5, 8, 4 and XNUMX at medium to low loads, deactivates the injection and ignition phases and closes the intake and exhaust valves. When operating with XNUMX cylinders, the synchronization of the active cylinders is adjusted according to the new flow pattern to obtain maximum efficiency, while in the inactive combustion chambers, the pistons move without dissipating energy. As soon as the accelerator pedal is firmly depressed, the "deactivated" cylinders become active again.

8-cylinder V-shaped RS Q8 it is combined with an 8-speed tiptronic gearbox with a clutch-optimized torque converter and quattro permanent all-wheel drive. Under normal driving conditions, the self-locking center differential distributes torque between the front and rear in a 40:60 ratio. In the event of a loss of traction, most of the traction is transferred to the axle, which guarantees excellent traction: depending on driving conditions, up to 70% at the front and up to 85% at the rear.

Air suspension and integrated steering

La new Audi RS Q8 It is also equipped with advanced technical solutions that make it as agile as a real sports car, despite its size and weight. An electric motor located on each of the axles controls the operation of two segments of the anti-roll bar. When driving in a straight line, the anti-roll bar segments are separated, which reduces the stresses that the vehicle body is subjected to on uneven roads and significantly increases comfort. If, on the other hand, the driver chooses a sporty driving style, the half arms are joined together to minimize lateral lowering.

The optional Dynamic Plus package, in addition to increasing top speed, includes active anti-roll bar, sports differential and carbon ceramic brakes. StandardAudi RS Q8 also equipped with integrated steering. In particular, the rear axle, with the help of a system of screws and transverse steering rods, provides wheel steering at low speed in antiphase with respect to the front wheels by a maximum of five degrees. On the other hand, at medium and high speeds, the rear wheels steer a maximum of 1,5 degrees in the same direction as the front, which contributes to the stability of the vehicle.

Always standard new Audi RS Q8 Uses 10-inch 22-spoke alloy wheels with 295/40 tires. On request, 23 '' 5-spoke Y-spoke alloy wheels are available in various shades.
