The Audi RS4 Avant is spacious, practical, comfortable, but above all very fast. In dynamics, he has improved significantly and now displays a much sharper and more athletic demeanor than in the past. The turbo V2.9 6 has the same horsepower as the old V8 (450 hp), but the avalanche of extra torque makes the RS4 better in both relaxed and sporty driving.

There is a lot of equipment on board, but not enough equipment: the options are many, they are greedy, and the price rises well above 100.000 euros.

To see how much better this new RS4 is than the previous model, we took it everywhere, including mountain roads.

The car is heavy, but shock absorbers they are very well masked, "smoothing" it with a sharp load transfer. The real surprise is that the new RS4 - besides having a lot more power put into the right pedal - is also more likely to play. IN ago moves when braking and assists in cornering, while sport differential on exit, it offers slight, easily controlled oversteer. It even seems to behave better than its sister Audi RS5 Coupé, more "sitting" and stable. Going fast is easy, very easy, but the feeling that she is doing “mageggi” is always present.

There's always something artificial about the way he handles the road on a tablet. The feeling of being connected to the pavement is not so intimate (here steering slightly hollow in the center and becomes very accurate after the first quarter), while four-wheel drive he constantly seems to be unable to decide whether to give you the pleasure of oversteer or guarantee a safe corner exit.

Don't get me wrong, new Audi Avant RS4 it is much better than the previous model. It is faster, more interesting, more accurate; but it remains a little more phony and apathetic than the BMW M4 and Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio rivals (which, however, do not exist in the station wagon variant) or the Mercedes C63 AMG (which is less practical, simple and complete). One final note on brakes: the front carbon ceramic discs are difficult to tire out on the road, but the pedal is a little porous and the ABS intervention is too aggressive; but that's only if it's too malicious to drive.
