Audi patents car paint that changes color

Audi's color change system allows you to display two shades of your car's paint in one swipe on the dashboard.

We have all seen chameleon paint on cars that changes color depending on the direction of the light source. And we've seen paint change color with temperature. Especially if you splash hot or cold water on the car. Both have been around for years. But A new invention from Audi. it is neither one nor the other. But what if you could change the color of your paint like turning on a light?

Audi has just applied for a patent for a paint that changes color

This is what Audi has just applied for a German patent to protect. The main goal is to reduce energy consumption in car. But how does color-changing paint do this?

Audi calls it "adaptive color".. He says this because "black cars use one to two percent more energy than white cars in midsummer." Audi's invention uses "a graphic film layer having a display image and a background color, a switchable film layer and a color layer.. The switchable film layer can switch between a light state and a dark state.

When power is applied to the switchable film layer, the displayed graphics are displayed on top of the display film against the background color, or only the background color is displayed on top of the display film.

How does color change happen in Audi vehicles?

color change occurs when electricity is applied to liquid crystal particles in suspension.

This is activated by an electrical voltage applied to the liquid crystal particles. These LCPs are suspended in the paint as metallic particles in metallic paints. Or the polymer liquid crystal film can be applied as a paint mask.

The particles of liquid crystals are rearranged when an electric charge is activated. When this happens, the opaque film becomes transparent. The color under the mask or paint is now exposed. If you want to restore the dark color, you just need to turn off the electrical charge and the molecules will return to their previous opaque state..

As a result, less energy is needed to heat or cool the passenger compartment. Will it work? Of course. Is installing an Audi paint system worth the extra cost savings? It seems questionable, which is a shame.

How expensive can this paint be?

With the flick of a switch, you will have an instant color change. But just as candy colors in the 1950s and 1960s, and pearls and metal flakes in the 1960s and 1970s, cost far more than standard paint, so did this new type of paint.
