Emergency bicycles: here is the first electric bike designed for emergency workers

E-bike retailer Ecox has teamed up with Paris-based agency Wunderman Thompson to launch Emergency Bike, a new electric bike that helps Paris ambulances move faster through busy streets. The first fleet of emergency bicycles, created exclusively for the needs of doctors, was launched in early September.

Paris is one of the most densely populated cities in Europe. More than 200 km of traffic jams form here every day. To prevent EMTs from getting stuck in traffic and slowing down response times, Wunderman Thompson Paris, in collaboration with Ecox, designed and developed a new solution: "the city's first time-tested medical vehicle, an electric bike designed by and for doctors." .

These e-bikes are equipped with a large isolation box for transporting medication, large puncture-resistant tires, a real-time GPS tracker, and a USB connection for connecting any device. And to be efficient on his emergency trips, the cyclist doctor gets 75 Nm of torque and a good range of 160 kilometers thanks to two 500 Wh batteries.

Of course, the reflective stripes on the wheels make them visible in motion, and the 140dB audible alarm as well as long-range LED signs allow them to signal an emergency.

A high-performance bike that meets the needs of emergency doctors.

It was after a wave of strikes in November 2019 that Wunderman Thompson Paris came up with the idea to create these emergency bicycles. The Paris-based agency then joined forces with the Ecox electric bike brand. Together they worked with e-bike manufacturer Urban Arrow and doctors at UMP (Urgences Médicales de Paris) to develop a document defining the requirements for this unusual vehicle.

« From the technical specifications to the design of the bike, including the technical and medical part, everything has been developed to meet very specific needs. ”, said creative directors Paul-Émile Raymond and Adrian Mansel. ” These rescue bikes are fast. They glide easily in heavy traffic, park in tight spaces and, most importantly, allow doctors to cross Paris with their medical equipment faster than any other vehicle and, on average, get to each medical intervention point in half the time. .

« Ambulance bikes are our answer to the complex challenges of moving doctors around the city. said Matthieu Froger, CEO of Ecox. ” After the conclusion, Parisians will no longer use public transport as often. Many of them will use their cars instead, and this will create even more traffic jams. More tomorrow than ever, doctors will need ambulance bikes .
