Emergency start of the car - what to do?

If the battery in your car is dead, an emergency start is an effective solution. Additional accessories will help solve the problem. The help of a second person also does not hurt, so you should call someone who has a serviceable car and a charged battery. How to prepare for such emergencies? Find out in our article!

What is required for a successful emergency start of a car?

To be able to start a car that has run out of power, you will need a second car with a working battery. Cables that can be connected to it will also be indispensable. If you do everything right, the car will definitely start - of course, if the cause is a dead battery.

It doesn't matter if the car you drive every day has a negative mass in relation to another vehicle. It should also not be an obstacle if one machine is equipped with an alternator and the other with a generator. Just follow the steps below and you probably won't need roadside assistance.

How to prepare the car for battery charging?

To do this as efficiently as possible, it is worth asking for help from another driver who has a charged battery and jumpers in the car.

The next step is to prepare the vehicles for battery interconnection. They should be set to the park-neutral position, with the ignition off. The two hand brakes must also be engaged.

Connecting connecting cables - what to do?

The next step in the emergency start of the car is to connect the connecting cables.

  1. You need to connect one of the red clips to the positive battery terminal. This item must be marked with a "+" or "POS" sign. It will also be larger than the negative output.
  2. The other end of the connecting cable must be connected to a vehicle with a charged battery. One of the black clips should be placed on the negative terminal.
  3. It must be mounted on an unpainted metal part of the car, away from the battery.

Starting a car with a faulty power supply

After correctly connecting the cables, it is necessary to leave the hoods of the cars open, supporting them with metal spacers. Again, make sure the cables are connected correctly.

The next step is to start a functional vehicle. What should an emergency vehicle look like? FROMthe engine should run for a few minutes. Then you can try to start the car with a dead battery. At this point, the problem should be resolved.

What if the car won't start?

Unfortunately, it may happen that starting the car does not bring the expected results.

  1. In this situation, you need to double-check that all cables are connected correctly.
  2. To increase the likelihood that everything will work out this time, it is advisable to start the engine of a serviceable car for at least 5 minutes.
  3. Then you can try again.

If the vehicle still does not respond, the vehicle will need to be towed to a workshop where a technician will run a diagnosis.

Was the emergency start of the car successful? Charge your battery while driving

If the car starts, do not turn it off immediately. The best solution would be to drive the next 15 minutes. Why is it important? During this time, the battery will be charged and the car will work when driving for a longer distance.

It may happen that the battery still refuses to obey. If the car does not want to start again, and the reason is the same, then the battery does not hold a charge. You will need to purchase a new power supply. However, we hope that the emergency start of the car will bear fruit!
