Car accident. This mistake is made by many drivers.

Car accident. This mistake is made by many drivers. When an accident occurs on the route we are on, many drivers slow down to look at the scene of the accident and even photograph or film it. This can hamper the work of those providing assistance, lead to dangerous situations and further slow down traffic.

You may notice that many people deliberately slow down when driving past the scene of an accident to see what exactly happened. If help has already been called, then we should not do it.

– Increasingly, it happens that an ambulance or a fire truck cannot reach the victims of an accident. The trip is blocked by drivers who want to observe the incident or even film it and post the material on the Internet. Instead, they should pass this place as efficiently as possible and just continue driving, unless, of course, someone is already helping those involved in the accident, says Zbigniew Veseli, director of the Renault School of Safe Driving.

Dangerous distraction

It is natural to be interested in such an event as a traffic accident. However, we must resist the temptation to look away. You must remember that drivers in front of us and behind us can also look at the scene of the accident and behave unpredictably. Then another collision is easy, this time with our participation. Studies conducted in the USA have shown that in as many as 68% of road traffic accidents, the driver's attention was distracted shortly before the accident*.

“We also have to consider traffic flow. Often the difficulties resulting from a traffic accident are exacerbated by drivers who, instead of watching the people driving the vehicle and trying to drive efficiently, deliberately slow down while looking around the scene of the accident. Thus, even on the passable lane, a traffic jam can form, say the instructors of the Renault Safe Driving School.

Consider others

Watching is one thing, but documenting a traffic accident and publishing it on the Internet is harmful for another reason. Information on social networks spreads very quickly, so relatives and friends of the victims may stumble upon a photo or video from the scene before the message reaches them in other ways. Out of respect for the victims of the tragedy, we should not publish such content.
