The Aisin AW4-50LE or AF40 14-speed automatic transmission was shown in 1995 and has since been actively installed on mid-size cars by a dozen automakers. Since about 2009, this transmission has been put only on models for developing countries.
The AW50 family also includes automatic transmissions: AW50‑40LS and AW50‑42LE.

Disadvantages, breakdowns and problems of Aisin AW50-40LE
The automatic machine of a proven design breaks down infrequently and only at high mileage
Its only weak point is the cracking Forwad-Direct drum.
Often the torque converter seal leaks, a little less often it oozes from the axle shafts
A drop in oil pressure is fraught with accelerated wear of the mechanical parts of the automatic transmission
