The 6-speed automatic transmission GM 6T40 has been assembled at the concern's factories since 2007 and is installed on front-wheel drive models under the MH8 index and all-wheel drive models like MHB. There is a version for MHH hybrid cars and a Gen 3 modification under the MNH index.
The 6T family also includes automatic transmissions: 6T30, 6T35, 6T45, 6T50, 6T70, 6T75 and 6T80.

In 2007, General Motors introduced a whole series of automatic transmissions for front and all-wheel drive vehicles with a transverse powertrain. The 6T40 box is considered average in the line and is aggregated with engines up to 240 Nm of torque. There is a separate version of the automatic transmission with the MHH index for the eAssist hybrid power plant.

Advantages:

The manufacturer does not regulate oil changes, but since the solenoids here are very sensitive to the purity of the lubricant, we recommend updating it at least once every 60 km, and preferably once every 000 km. A total of 30 liters of DEXRON VI oil is in the system, but with a partial replacement, 000 to 8.2 liters are included.
Disadvantages, breakdowns and problems of the 6T40 box
The most famous problem of the machine is the weak spring disk of the 3-5-R drum, it simply bursts, then breaks its stopper and the fragments scatter throughout the system. Despite a number of upgrades to the design of the gearbox, such breakdowns still occur.
It is also worth noting the rather aggressive settings of the transmission control unit, due to which the torque converter clutch wears out very quickly. And the solenoids in this box do not tolerate dirty lubrication and often give up even up to 80 km.
The weak points of this machine also include a modest resource of sleeves, rapid contamination of the speed sensors and an insufficient standard cooling system. The differential does not shine with reliability, and in the first gearboxes, its bolts were also unscrewed.
The manufacturer claims a 6T40 checkpoint resource of 200 thousand km, and this is how much it serves.
