Description of the Hyundai A6MF1 gearbox device

In 2009, a large family of Hyundai-Kia 6-speed automatics debuted, and one of its representatives was the A6MF1, designed for engines up to 2.4 liters and 235 Nm. The design of the gearbox is classic: the moment from the internal combustion engine is transmitted through a torque converter, the gear ratio here is selected by a planetary gearbox, fixed by friction clutches, and the automatic transmission is controlled by a hydraulic block of solenoid valves using a selector in the cabin.

During the release, the box has been modernized more than once and there are a number of its modifications, this must be taken into account when choosing a contract gearbox on our secondary market.

Hyundai A6MF1 gearbox maintenance schedule

The official manual indicates the oil change interval in the transmission every 90 km, but it is recommended to update it every 000 km, since the gearbox is sensitive to the purity of the lubricant. In total, there are 50 liters of Hyundai ATF SP-IV in the box, but with a partial replacement, about 000 liters are included, however, there is a technique for draining oil from the radiator hoses and then 7.3 liters are poured.

You may also need some consumables (to change the filter, you need to disassemble the gearbox):

Oil filter (only when disassembling the gearbox)article 46321-26000

Disadvantages, breakdowns and problems of the A6MF1 box

Problems of the first years

In the first years of production, the manufacturer struggled with a considerable number of gearbox flaws, the most famous of which was the self-loosening of the central gear bolts. And this often ended in the failure of the transmission and its replacement under warranty. Also here for a long time they could not eliminate shocks when switching, there was a whole series of firmware.

Valve body malfunctions

This box is famous for its very high requirements for the purity of the lubricant, and if you update it according to the official regulations, then your valve body channels will simply become clogged with dirt, then there will be rumors and jerks, and everything will end with oil starvation and automatic transmission breakdown.

Differential crunch

Another proprietary problem of the machine is the appearance of a crunch in the differential due to the breakdown of the splines of its body. It's just that this transmission does not tolerate frequent slippage. You will have to repair with spare parts from disassembly, since a new unit is very expensive.

Other problems

The weak points of the gearbox include the oil temperature sensor, the wiring harness of the solenoids, and also the plastic pan, it bursts when its bolts are tightened, fighting leaks. Also, the pump of the first version was made on a sleeve and turned over when it overheated.

The manufacturer claims an A6MF1 resource of 180 km, but usually it also serves 000 km.
