Car-No. Volkswagen offers the best internet connection
Volkswagen is expanding the connectivity of smartphones and tablets to media in its vehicles.
App-Connect allows you to work with content stored on mobile devices and display it through the car radio system and radio navigation system. Smartphone applications can be displayed on the car's multimedia screen using the MirrorLinkTM function, as well as Android AutoTM (Google) and CarPlayTM (Apple) platforms.
App-Connect, a feature of the Car-Net system, allows you to connect and use numerous apps available in the Google Store and the Apple Store. The multimedia system in Volkswagen vehicles not only allows the use of the application, but now gives the driver the ability to give voice commands via Siri (Apple) or Google Voice.
App-Connect and Car-Net can be ordered (as an option) for all vehicles equipped with a Composition Media radio system or a Discover Media radio navigation system. In addition to the new Volkswagen Touran and Sharan, the system is also available for the Polo, Beetle, Golf, Golf Sportsvan, Golf Cabriolet, Scirocco, Jetta, Passat and Passat Variant, CC and Tiguan models. App-Connect is standard on the Discover Pro radio and navigation system (available on all Golf, Touran and Passat versions).
By supplementing the system with the “Guide & Inform” service, which combines the most important functions of Car-Net, it is possible to inform the driver while driving. For example, the system provides real-time traffic alerts, informs you about the number of free spaces in nearby parking lots, and points to stations offering the best fuel prices. In addition to using the above functions, the system also allows you to program a destination at home or in the office and send it to the car's navigation system.
Google Street View and Google Earth provide the driver with photographs (including satellite images) that very accurately reflect the characteristic places on the programmed route, making it easier to navigate. The system also has a POI search function, thanks to which you can easily find nearby restaurants, museums or cinemas, and at the same time even check what the weather is expected at your destination.
New for rear-seat passengers is the Volkswagen Media Control, which allows tablets and iPads to be connected wirelessly (via WLAN) to the vehicle's multimedia system (Discover Media or Discover Pro). Thanks to this, passengers can select music tracks or download information from the radio and navigation system to their tablets without distracting the driver.
The many useful functions of Guide & Inform and App-Connect are only possible thanks to the car's mobile internet connection. Data can be loaded in several ways:
– directly via smartphone – after connecting the smartphone to the multimedia system in the car,
- via a separate SIM card used in the so-called. Car-Stick for installation in a USB port (available as an option),
– via a SIM card inserted directly into the card reader, in vehicles with a Discover Pro radio navigation device and Premium telephone installation (optional).
