Car charger with start - do I need a battery booster?

Starting rectifier - is it safe? Opinions are divided on this issue, and the role of the users themselves is significant. Find out how to deal with it.

Each starter rectifier comes with instructions to follow when starting the engine. Otherwise, it may even damage the battery or the device. Nevertheless, such a rectifier finds an increasing number of fans. Why? You will find out the answer after reading the article!

Battery chargers - what types can be distinguished?

The following types of chargers are available on the market:

  • traditional;
  • microprocessor (automatic);
  • traction;
  • impulsive.

Due to their design, size and application, not all of these models are suitable for emergency vehicle battery charging. If you want to know which one will be the best, check out what characterizes individual technologies.

Traditional car chargers - saving the house

Standard equipment for battery power consists mainly of a transformer and additional electrical equipment. You will not find sophisticated security or electronic control in them. Against the backdrop of traditional equipment, the straightener with a start function is like a combine for special tasks. Mains-powered devices provide slow charging without harming car batteries. They usually cost several tens of zlotys. Transformer rectifiers with start assist are commonly used to charge lead-acid batteries.

Microprocessor rectifier - an advanced assistant for the car

Power supplies of this type are great for charging the battery in a car without constant monitoring of their work. Everything needed is controlled by a microprocessor, which is very sensitive to voltage fluctuations, battery level or unevenness when connecting crocodile clips. Thanks to the electronics used, the automatic rectifier is completely safe for the car's power supply system.

Traction rectifiers - where will they be used?

They are most often used as devices powered by a 24V battery. There are not many such cars. Therefore, they are suitable for working with agricultural machinery, vans and trucks. Such a start-up rectifier is useful in a car repair shop, transport company or on a farm. Traction batteries are also available in electric forklifts, so this kit can also be useful in such machines.

Switching rectifiers - characteristics and functions of devices

Switching rectifiers are one of the most efficient devices for charging dead car batteries. Due to the huge frequency of operation and the absence of voltage alternation, such a rectifier is very efficient. The pulse device is resistant to voltage drops in the network, so the car battery is charging without any complaints. For this reason, these types of devices are called smart car chargers.

Starting rectifier - what is it?

This type of equipment is noticeably larger than traditional ones. This allows the vehicle to be started immediately without the need to connect to another vehicle or electrical network. The jump start charger is usually designed to work with 12/24V batteries, making it very versatile. Smaller models can be safely transported in a vehicle in the event of a sudden battery discharge. Larger units (often mounted on special hand trucks) are used in workshops, fleets or farms.

How to work with a kickstarter rectifier?

Basically, it's not too difficult. Modern rectifiers are equipped with security systems, but not only. They determine the battery capacity, starting current and voltage. Therefore, usually all you need to do is connect the equipment to the battery and charge it. It is worth remembering that the engine must be started in strictly defined conditions. What is it really about?

How to start the engine using a starting rectifier?

First, determine if the vehicle manufacturer has provided the ability to use the boost function to start the unit in an emergency. Why is it important? If the current exceeds the capacity of the fuses in the electrical system, this can lead to damage to individual components. The crank car charger provides a large dose of cranking current that is transferred to the battery. Then follow our seven tips.

Actions in download mode

  1. Disconnect the charger's power cord from the power source.
  2. Select the power cable (12V or 24V) according to the rated current of the battery.
  3. Connect the positive wire to the positive terminal on the battery or a suitable location.
  4. Choose a ground cable and connect it to a metal part of the engine as close to the battery as possible.
  5. Route the power cord into the mains and press the button responsible for starting the rectifier.
  6. Adhere to the starting mode specified in the manufacturer's instructions (for example, turn the starter for a few seconds, for example 3, and stop it).
  7. Switch off the device after starting the drive unit.

A good car rectifier or what?

For older car models, traditional battery chargers are suitable. In older cars, you will most often find the most common lead-acid batteries that do not require additional protection. The situation is somewhat different with newer cars. They, in addition to new types of batteries, also have additional on-board systems, such as start-stop. Such vehicles require larger and more efficient batteries. It is not recommended to charge them with conventional transformer rectifiers. A good starting rectifier is one that matches the type of car.

Battery Charging Rectifiers - Rectifier Purchase Prices

On the market, you can find the most technologically simple rectifiers for a few tens of zlotys. However, they do not require automatic control or trigger functions. The money limit for a very good car battery charger is 20 euros. For this price, you can get a reliable 12/24V microprocessor rectifier. If you are interested in devices with a boot, be prepared to spend 400-50 euros.

What rectifier to buy for a car? Due to the considerable complexity of electrical systems in vehicles, automatic rectifiers will be the best. Thanks to them, you do not have to worry about the condition of the battery and the plant of the car. You will also avoid the risk of damage from overcharging. This is the right choice for most drivers. A start-up rectifier is not the cheapest, but it is definitely worth considering buying it.
