The carrying capacity of a passenger car is small, but it can be easily increased at times. Just install a hitch, borrow a trailer, and you can go camping, haul a sailboat or home renovation supplies.

Cars and SUVs, with rare exceptions, are designed to tow a trailer, so there are no contraindications for installing a towbar. There should be no problems with the purchase and assembly.

The easiest way to enter the site. High prices are to be expected at ASO, but during the warranty period we are forced to use an authorized service. After the warranty has expired, you can use the services of an unauthorized service. It is worth asking about a non-original towbar, i.e. without car manufacturer logo, which is much cheaper.

Hooks from well-known manufacturers (for example, Polish Auto-Hak Słupsk, Swedish Brink) are no different in quality from those offered by car companies.

There are currently two types of hooks available, and in accordance with current regulations, both types have a removable ball. Ball screw versions are cheaper. This is an inconvenient solution, since it takes tools and a little gymnastics to attach the ball, because the screws are hidden under the bumper.

This solution is good if we use the hook from time to time. Hook with the so-called machine. No tools are required for assembly and disassembly, the operation is very simple and fast.

In some cars, you can order a folding towbar (for example, Opel Vectra Estate). This is the most convenient and most expensive solution. This hook is already assembled at the factory. When not in use, it hides under the bumper, and when needed, with just one movement of the lever located in the trunk, the hook automatically slides out from under the bumper. If you do not need it, press the lever again and lightly press the ball that is hidden under the bumper.

Please note that the ball can only be installed when towing a trailer. Of course, no one is watching this, and on the streets you can see many cars with empty hooks.

Installation of the towbar is not difficult, but it takes from 3 to 6 hours, because. it is necessary to remove the bumper and trunk lining, which is not easy in some models. Sometimes cars are so adapted to the assembly that holes do not need to be drilled in the body, as existing technological holes are used. Only in the lower part of the bumper you need to make a cutout for the ball.

In addition to the hook, you also need to install an electrical outlet. Unfortunately, in modern cars this is not so easy and it is best to use the original, and therefore very expensive wiring harness. The reason is the ESP, which works a little differently when towing a trailer, which greatly increases the likelihood of the car and trailer skidding.

After installing the hook, you need to go to the diagnostic station so that the diagnostician makes an entry in the registration certificate - the vehicle is adapted for towing a trailer.
