Cars that throughout history had nothing more than an airplane engine

All of these vehicles were either concept cars or very short-lived, as aircraft engines are lighter than conventional car engines, are air-cooled, and take up more space.

Throughout automotive history, there have been all kinds of vehicles, cars with small engines, others with very large engines, and, believe it or not, were cars with aircraft engines.  

An airplane engine and a car engine are very different.. For example, aircraft engines are lighter than conventional automobile engines, are air-cooled and require 2,900 rpm to reach full power, while conventional automobile engines require over 4,000 rpm to reach maximum power.

Although it seems complicated and not very plausible, there are cars with this type of engine. That's why, here we have collected some of the existing aircraft powered vehicles.

– Renault Etoile Filante

This was the only attempt by Renault to create a gas turbine car and set a land speed record for this type of vehicle.

On September 5, 1956, he set a world speed record by accelerating to 191 miles per hour (mph) on the surface of Bonville Salt Lake in the United States.

— General Motors Firebird

The design had the proportions of a fighter jet and a canopy, more like an airplane than a car, and is definitely one of the more unusual models on the list.

These Firebird concept cars were a series of three cars designed by Harley Earl and built by General Motors for Auto show Montana in 1953, 1956 and 1959.

These concepts did not make it to the pipeline and remained concepts.

– Chrysler Turbine

The Chrysler Turbine Car is a gas turbine engine manufactured by Chrysler from 1963 to 1964.

A-831 engines, which were equipped Turbines Car engines developed by Ghia could run on different fuels, required less maintenance and lasted longer than conventional piston engines, although they were much more expensive to manufacture.

- Tucker '48 Sedan

El Chemisette The torpedo is a machine ahead of its time, designed by American businessman Preston Tucker and manufactured in Chicago in 1948. 

It has a four-door sedan body and only 51 units were built before the company was closed due to fraud allegations. This car had a large number of innovations that were ahead of their time.

However, the newest was the helicopter engine, which was a 589-litre, 9,7 cubic-inch flat-six engine that was mounted in the rear.
