BMW standalone car recognizes eyes

Artificial intelligence detects when a passenger stares intently at an object outside the car

The Bavarians held three premieres during the CES in Las Vegas. We have already introduced the concept of the BMW i3 Urban Suite. It's time to take a look at the interior of the BMW i Interaction Ease and the ZeroG Lounger lounge chair for the BMW X7 crossover. We will start with a luxurious seat, because it will become standard "in the next few years." The back can be folded back 40 or 60 degrees while driving without compromising safety: the belt and a special pillow in the shape of a cocoon are built into the chaise lounge. The energy of the impact is effectively dissipated on the body of the passenger.

According to the creators, the interior of the BMW i Interaction Ease intentionally looks abstract in order to focus exclusively on the interior. Inside, there are only seats, a screen and a backlight, although some promised not to forget the importance of the driver ...

In the inclined position, the passenger can turn on the screen film under the ceiling. If you decide to view travel information, animated graphics will help with spatial orientation and "reduce motion sickness by four times." A smartphone is connected and charged.

The key feature of the BMW i Interaction Ease, which simulates the cab, is the innovative “eye recognition” of the user. Artificial intelligence detects when a passenger carefully looks at an object outside the car (for example, a store or restaurant), and offers him relevant information (data on discounts, menus). Along with the appearance, the interface perceives voice commands, gestures and touches. However, the windshield becomes a panoramic display with augmented reality or a home theater screen.

BMW Intelligent Assistant recognizes passengers approaching the car, greets them with lighting and offers to take seats decorated with knitwear with sensory properties. The pillow and back are fixed in several positions. Side "smart windows" darkened by themselves.

The cockpit operates in three modes: Explore - exploration of the space around the car with augmented reality tips, Entertain - cinema with ambient lighting, Ease resting on the seat in a "weightless" position with relaxing music and lights. “Passengers start their journey feeling like they have already arrived at their destination,” BMW says, seemingly oblivious that those who have arrived usually leave the vehicle without delay. The BMW i Interaction Ease features are the first to be used in the iNext crossover in 2021.
