Cormorant went to sea

ORP Kormoran during the second, stormy sea exit, July 14 of this year.

On July 13 of this year, for the first time, a prototype mine hunter of project 258 Kormoran II went to sea. Less than two years have passed since the laying of the keel in September 2014. The ship still has a number of difficult tests and qualification tests ahead, but so far the program is being carried out in accordance with the schedule stipulated in the contract with the Armaments Inspectorate.

In the spring of this year, the construction of the ORP Kormoran entered a decisive phase. In March, while the ship was still being completed, factory tests began on a cable. In May, MTU 6R1600M20S generator sets were put into operation for the first time at auxiliary power plants, and in the same month they were put into operation. Shortly before the first exit to the sea, both MTU 8V369 TE74L propulsion engines were put into operation and commissioned. The process of transferring individual devices, mechanisms and systems to the shipyard is quite complex and time-consuming, so it continues to this day, despite the fact that the ship has entered sea trials. By the time they began, tethered tests of the ship's platform had been completed, but in the case of its equipment, they continue. In accordance with the agreement between the Weapons Inspectorate and the contractor, i.e. by a consortium of companies led by Remontowa Shipbuilding SA, civil and military institutions participate in the technical acceptance. These are respectively: the classification institution (Polski Rejestr Statków SA) and the 4th regional military representation in Gdansk.
