Battery. Facts and myths

Battery. Facts and myths Many factors affect battery life. The most important are the type of engine, car model, equipment and even the conditions in which the vehicle is operated. Much of the information we find online about car batteries is incorrect. So how do you know what is fact and what is myth?

JBattery. Facts and mythsWe can take one for granted. The newer the car, the faster the battery is consumed due to the amount of electronics installed in the car. Older diesel models did not require much electricity. It was enough to push them down the hill, and the engine started, and we could easily get to the house, despite the failure.

“Modern cars work differently and it’s hard for them to get by without a working battery. New car models, despite the installation of proven mechanisms, are supported by additional electronics. The main function is the electromechanical power steering, which is already in every car. says the Autotesto.pl service expert

One cannot help but get the impression that without a functioning battery, modern cars would not be able to function. So what is the right way to take care of it?

Age

There is a myth that only young batteries are fully functional. Age certainly affects their links, but not as much as you might think. The most important problem is tension at rest. Thus, overcharging and undercharging destroys our battery very quickly. How can this be prevented? Check the starting current and charging voltage regularly. Inspection and possible corrections will significantly increase battery life.

Short cuts

There is a belief that short episodes are detrimental to the battery. Unfortunately it's true. When starting the engine, the most electricity is consumed, and it is not possible to compensate for losses during movement for some time.

There is an opinion that the car must work for at least 20 minutes in order for the battery to charge. However, this is a variable time as it is affected by several other factors. These include air conditioning, heated seats and windows, and some others that consume a lot of electricity. All this, combined with frequent switching on and off of the engine, leads to undercharging of the battery. This leads to the possibility of damage. During this operation, the battery should be recharged separately from time to time. This gives us confidence that it will serve us much longer.

eco-driving

Fashion for "eco" has already reached car owners. The habit of eco-driving is spreading, which is nothing more than saving fuel and reducing carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere. Several driving methods have even been developed to achieve this goal. One of them is dynamic acceleration to reach the desired speed in a short time, and then driving at a constant pace in high gear and the lowest possible engine speed.

- Indeed, this practice means that less fuel is consumed, but, unfortunately, the battery is overused. The main problem is the low speed at which battery charging is inefficient. Add to this additionally consuming mechanisms, such as air conditioning or heating, as well as a short track, it often turns out that the battery remains undercharged and wears out faster. – explains the Autotesto.pl expert.

When using a battery, always remember the meaning of its name. It stores energy but doesn't produce it, so it's important to get it first. Despite advances in technology, car battery life still depends on proper use. For the sake of yourself and your car, sometimes it's worth looking under the hood and checking how your energy storage is charging. By regularly recharging, it will reward us with longer work.
