Safe track includes error correction field
The correct trajectory is critical to road safety. This is worth remembering, especially when cornering.
There is a belief among Polish drivers that speed is the most important factor in road safety. Yes, its adaptation to the conditions on the track is very important, and according to the police, driving too fast is the most common cause of accidents. However, you must remember that even when driving in accordance with the current restrictions, we will not reach your destination safely if we do not ensure the correct path of the car.
Driving safety experts point out that geometry is key here. - To safely pass the turn, it is worth following the principle hidden under the slogan "first inside, then outside." This means approaching the inside edge of the road when entering a turn so that you have room to get outside during the exit, explains Radosław Jaskulski, safety driving instructor at Skoda Auto Szkola.
Unfortunately, the driver does not drive the car on the highway, where you always know what is around the corner. Therefore, it is extremely important to remember the safe margin on the road in the second phase of the turn in order to correct any mistakes. How to do it? At the final stage, do not go completely outside, but leave yourself some space.
Formula One drivers don't do that and drive from the inside to the outside using the full width of the track. However, an oil slick, sand, or other obstacle is sufficient and they are thrown off the track. The driver on the road can't afford it. Regardless of whether you are driving on a winding mountain road or on a motorway, this rule is always relevant, reminds Radoslav Jaskulsky. He warns that even with only one lane width at your disposal, you don't always have to strictly follow the line.
A correctly chosen path of movement is one in which the contact of the car with the tangent, i.e. the outer edge of the selected lane, falls on 2/3 of the distance traveled. And it is at this point that it is worth having the aforementioned margin on the right for a possible error correction. Otherwise, it is easy to get out of the way with dire consequences. Most importantly, the track is more important than speed. The old rule, repeated by rally drivers as well, is that it's better to slow down into a turn and accelerate out of it than to start fast and then pull the car out of the ditch.
When correcting the track, remember that the movements of the steering wheel should be smooth. Especially in cars equipped with electronic auxiliary systems. They work in such a way that they try to use the steering wheel to direct the car in the direction indicated by the driver. Fast traffic can end up landing off the road electronically.
