BMW 7 e38 - a luxury that needs to mature

Like, ideal things live only in our heads. There must be something in it, because it is really difficult to point out at least something that would be close to ideal. In any case, the more important question is what is our idea of the ideal. Because human nature, unfortunately, is so arranged that even in ideal things it can find small flaws and shortcomings. Unfortunately.

I love cars and cars. I do not know what is hidden in these four or five meters of steel structure, which fascinates me so much. I don't know if it's the shape of the body, or the sound of pistons moving in cylinders, or the smell of leather upholstery that wraps around my tiny, Woody Allen-like silhouette. I don't know, and frankly, I'm not interested, because some things cannot be factored into simple factors. Because then they lose their charm.

BMW. This brand needs no introduction. This is a brand that has always held a special place in my head, in my dreams. As a small toddler, I would sit at my desk for hours trying to accurately transfer the shape of the resistor in front of me onto a piece of paper. While the other kids ran around the yard or looked at the Smurfs, I sorted through my collection of Turbo gum pictures. I love it. Especially those who have cars of the Bavarian brand. Among them, the "seven" occupied a special place. Huge, menacing, powerful and so beautiful. It looks so ordinary and unremarkable, but because of this it is beautiful.

The E7 38 series, which in my opinion is considered one of the most beautiful, in addition to the BMW 5 E60, Bavarian brand cars that have ever driven on the roads, is an amazing car. The car is almost 5 meters in size (and in the "L" version and more than 5 meters!) has a unique appearance. The strong and intimidating-looking case captivates with the impression of lightness and extraordinary possibilities at the same time. The low hood combined with 18-inch wheels gives the silhouette a dynamic look. Typical for BMW cars, headlights with "kidneys" at the "seven" look like Giewont against the backdrop of the Tatras. Majestic and uncompromising – simply beautiful.

The glamor of the BMW 7 Series does not end with its majestic exterior, in fact, it only begins with it. In the cavernous and huge interior of this place, no one should be lost. In addition, with a length of almost 5 m, a width of 1.9 m and a wheelbase of 2.9 m, no one has the right to run out there for lack of space. It's true that BMW also released an L version (14 cm longer than the standard version), which in the back seat offered space worthy of a government limousine (?). In general, officials are just like us, chosen by us, and the concept of a car “worthy of civil servants” should not be relevant, but at least it reflects the space reigning in the back seat of the BMW 7 Series. .

At the time, the most luxurious BMW on the market offered just about everything that was available at the time. A set of airbags, dual-zone automatic air conditioning, a stabilization system, a satellite TV, a tire pressure check system, a heated windshield, heated seats and a rear seat, or a rearview camera are just some of the accessories available then in the top. bmw model..

However, the most interesting, as is usually the case with cars of this brand, was hidden under the hood. The choice of power units was huge, in addition, for the first time in the top model of the Bavarian brand, three more diesel units appeared in the offer. The weakest of them, and at the same time the oldest, was installed in the 725tds model. Two and a half-liter diesel engine with a capacity of 143 hp. provided a heavy car with meager performance, and at the same time it was not very hardy. The other two blocks are different. Both are very strong, dynamic and, as it turned out years later, also durable. The smaller power unit, an inline six-cylinder, designated the 730d, had a displacement of 2.9 liters and produced 193 hp. More powerful, installed in the 740d model, is a 3.9-liter V-eight with a capacity of 245 hp. With this unit under the hood, the BMW 740d accelerated to 100 km / h in 8 seconds and was able to accelerate to a maximum of 242 km / h.

Among gasoline units, the leaders were V3.0 with a volume of 4.4 - 218 liters and a power of 286 - 2.8 hp. The extreme positions in the price lists were occupied by: the weakest six-cylinder in-line engine with a volume of 193 liters and a power of 750 hp. The 5.4iL model has a powerful twelve-cylinder engine with a volume of 326 liters and an output of 100 hp! The “Seven” with this unit under the hood put many sports cars to shame, accelerating to 6.5 km/h in just seconds!

Great powertrains would be nothing if the transmission and steering couldn't contain the power under the hood. Rear-wheel drive, high curb weight and perfectly tuned steering made it difficult to pull the car off balance on dry roads. On snow or wet surfaces, yes, but you can have a lot of fun doing it.

Dreams make you want to get out of bed in the morning. The plans laid down in the head make us stronger and allow us to constantly raise the bar higher. It's really beautiful. The BMW 7 Series is on my dream list and certainly on many other lists. One day, a steel BMW 740i will be put in front of my house. But before that happens, I have to realize that such a strong and powerful machine will not be cheap to maintain. And many owners of "sevens", unfortunately, are aware of this after the purchase. And then there are negative opinions about the car ...
