BMW has completed the development of a hybrid i8

Some time ago, BMW announced that serial production of the i8 hybrid supercar would be discontinued. It was expected that the sports model will remain on the assembly line until the end of the year, but the coronavirus pandemic changed the plans of the Bavarian manufacturer.

The latest copy of the model was a roadster made in the color of Portimao Blue. In fact, this is the only BMW i8 with such a color in the history of the model, which began 6 years ago. Since then, the company has produced 20 units of the sports hybrid.

Although the commercial part of the i8 cannot be considered successful, the model was positioned as the flagship among BMW products in terms of the introduction of the latest technologies. The company prides itself on both laser headlights and a carbon-fiber interior, as well as a car design that goes back to the 2009 Vision EfficientDynamics concept model. However, this does not prevent the sports car from looking avant-garde even today.

BMW has no plans to release a direct successor to the i8, but much of the technology - especially in the hybrid drive - is already being used in other models of the brand. This allowed the company to realize its plans for the electrification of the model range.
