The origins of drifting competitions date back to the 60s, when they were first held in the mountainous areas of the Japanese city of Nagano. At first they were called "edgeriding", as this discipline was an illegal form of entertainment for adrenaline-hungry drivers. Over time, it has evolved into a championship played on the international stage, in which the players compete for the recognition of the jury and fans from all over the world.

What is drifting?

Drifting is a sport discipline that involves skilful lateral skidding. Competitors compete against each other in properly prepared passenger cars with rear-wheel drive and, not least, engines without stipulated power limits, reaching even 800 hp. Competitions are held indoors, such as racing tracks or specially prepared stadiums, airports, squares.

Kamil Dzerbicki, member of the STAG Rally Team, who took 5th place in the PRO class of the Polish Drift Championship this year and 10th overall in the Drift Open Polish Drift Series, talks about how to succeed in this sport discipline. .

– In drifting, the most important thing is to set a goal and consistently strive to achieve it. Do not give up, even if the results are unsatisfactory. Victory is not in equipment, but in talent and experience, that is, in acquired skills. This year I proved that it is not age that matters on the track, but dedication and hard work. Although I am 18 years old and I have been competing since 2013, I have achieved results that I am very pleased with. Next year I will again fight for a high place on the podium.

Drifting requires many months of hard training from the players, the results of which are expressed in the results achieved in the competition. In this spectacular driving technique, the main thing is not time, but dynamics, spectacle and line of motion. Therefore, the task of the participants is to drive a certain number of laps in such a way that it pleases the jury and the fans present at the event. Those who meet these strict criteria can expect excellent results.

– Spectacular drift is not only burning rubber, but above all the skill of the driver. You have to work hard all year round to achieve high overall results. The race track is not a place for mistakes and shortcomings, you have to be focused and achieve your goal, says Daniel Duda of the STAG Rally Team, who finished 27th in the Polish Drift Championship Challenge class and 32nd overall in the Drift Open Polish Drift Series. classification.
