More light

More light Front fog lamps, commonly known as halogen, improve visibility in fog, heavy rain or snow.

Front fog lamps, commonly known as halogen bulbs, are standard on richer versions of the car. However, if we want to attach additional, non-standard halogen lamps to the car, it is better to check if the regulation allows this.

According to the law in force in Poland, a car must be equipped with a rear (red) fog lamp. Headlights that improve visibility in fog, heavy rain or snowfall are optional. However, they can be installed, but under strict conditions. According to the Ordinance of the Minister of Infrastructure on the technical condition of vehicles and the amount of their necessary equipment (Journal of Laws of 2003, No. 32), two front fog lamps can be installed on a passenger car. They may be white or yellow. They must be placed no further than 400 mm from the side of the car, no higher than the dipped beam and no less than 250 mm from the bottom edge of the car. Another requirement is the ability to turn on and off halogen lamps regardless of low or high beam. If the headlights installed by us do not meet any of these conditions, the vehicle will not pass the inspection.

Fashion to standard

As it turns out, non-standards cause little interest in the installation of non-standard halogens. According to Jacek Kukawski from the vehicle control center of Automobilklub Wielkopolski, there is practically no place in modern passenger cars for the installation of halogens, other than those provided by the manufacturer. Plastic bumpers make it difficult to install any More light custom lights. Perhaps that's why cars coming in for inspection do not have the problem of ill-fitting halogens. Off-road vehicles are an exception, especially those that are actually used in the field. Their owners very often install additional headlights, and not just fog ones. As SUV owners are subject to identical vehicle lighting regulations, they should review the previously mentioned ministerial rule before making any changes.

dear lights

If we don't get halogens as standard when we buy a car, it will be expensive to install them later, especially if we use an authorized workshop. They are installed in the places indicated by the vehicle manufacturer. The price also depends on the specific model. For the installation of halogens on a Ford Focus at one of the authorized service stations in Poznań, we will pay PLN 860, on a Fusion - less than PLN 400. The situation is similar with Toyota cars: authorized stations install halogen lamps for Corolla for more than PLN 1500, and the Yaris owner will pay PLN 860 for additional headlights. At Seat, which, like Toyota, has the same prices for all ASOs, there are no big differences between the models: halogen headlights for the Leon cost PLN 1040, for a smaller Cordoba - PLN 980.

An alternative to expensive purchases from an authorized dealer is to buy substitutes, for example, at an online auction. A set of halogens for Focus can be purchased for PLN 250 and for Cordoba for PLN 200. There should be no problems with self-assembly, because in most cars the place where the halogens are attached is only curtained by a radiator grille. Often cars also have a properly routed electrical system. The cheapest you can buy are used or non-standard universal halogen lamps for many cars. However, in the case of "stimulants" we run the risk of buying stolen headlights. On the other hand, non-standard headlights can be problematic to install - you should first check if you are breaking the rules after installing them. Universal fog lights have one indisputable advantage: you can buy a set of them for only 100 PLN.
