Brussels: Scooty unveils its self-service electric scooters

From the beginning of October, Scooty will launch its self-service electric scooter system in Brussels.

After Barcelona and Paris, it was Brussels' turn to switch to self-service electric scooters. On the occasion of European Mobility Week, Scooty unveiled the device in detail, which will launch in the Belgian capital from October.

The first fleet of 25 electric scooters

Initially, the fleet offered by Scooty will remain relatively modest: 25 electric scooters will be available in various regions from Louise to the European Quarter and from Central Station to Châtelain Square. At the second stage, according to user reviews, from March next year, the service will be integrated into 25 new scooters. Within two years, the fleet could be converted to 700 electric two-wheelers.

Free floating

The Scooty device is based on the principle of "free float", a device without "fixed" stations. To find and reserve a car, the user must have a mobile application that will also allow him to start the scooter. From a practical point of view, each scooter will be equipped with two helmets.

Based on the images presented on the operator's website, Muvi City from Torrot will be used as electric scooters. Weighing only 85 kg with battery, these small scooters are equipped with a 3 kW and 35 Nm engine and have a maximum speed of 75 km / h. However, for insurance reasons, Scooty may limit their speed to 45 km / h for its Brussels project.

Battery replacement will be carried out directly by the operator's teams, which eliminates the need for the user to look for a socket for recharging. Each scooter will carry two batteries with a unit capacity of 1.2 kWh and will be able to cover a distance of up to 110 kilometers in total.

0.25 € / min.

Taking advantage of the official presentation of the service, Scooty also lifts the curtain on its prices by announcing € 25 for registration and a usage fee of € 2.5 for the first ten minutes. In addition, each additional minute will cost € 0.25.

Subscription pricing will also be offered for professionals and loyal users. Without a doubt, for insurance reasons, the service is not available to persons under the age of 21.
