To control the operation of many devices in the car, electronic systems, including microprocessor ones, are used. They are expensive and therefore the machine must be operated in such a way as not to damage them.
The vehicle's electrical connection network is terminated by a diagnostic connector, which allows you to quickly identify the causes of the vehicle's inoperability, which is a valuable advantage that facilitates the work of service mechanics. The control systems are electronically designed, weatherproof and have a very high operational reliability. However, electrical devices in the vehicle can be damaged if not handled correctly. In the event of failure of the microprocessor system, the entire module must be replaced with a new one. Replacement is very expensive and will cost several thousand PLN because these devices are expensive due to their design complexity. We have already set up workshops to troubleshoot some problems in highly integrated systems, but not all problems can be repaired.
The question is how to operate the machine so as not to provoke the failure of the control computer? The answer is important because users who are accustomed to operating older cars are moving to modern cars that are saturated with electronics, and the habits remain the same. Here are a few tips to help prevent accidental damage to your car's electronics:
Do not disconnect the battery from the vehicle's electrical system when the engine is running and the alternator is producing electricity. If the engine is difficult to start, use a new, efficient battery to start and repair the problem first,
– do not “borrow” electricity from another battery or use a rectifier starter,
– in the event of a car breakdown and the need for body and paint repairs, combined with welding, the on-board computer must be dismantled to protect it from damage caused by a strong electromagnetic field or stray currents flowing through body parts.
– owners of private imported cars should obtain as much information and documents about their car as possible before buying. various modifications of cars are produced, incl. designed for operation in other climatic zones, refuels with gasoline of lower quality than European fuel. Then the microprocessor has a completely different engine control program. Knowing these details can significantly reduce repair costs.
