Will it be the punisher Kia Kluger and Prado? Epic Kia EV9 to be Australia's castle as full-size SUV market grows

Kia EV9 coming soon.

Kia's epic EV9 has been nearly confirmed for launch in Australia, with the three-row full-size SUV expected to land locally in 2023.

Claimed as the all-electric answer to cars like the Toyota Kluger and Toyota LandCruiser Prado, the EV9 is already in near-production form, with a real car coming next year.

And he's big. The concept version is about 4928mm long, making it slightly shorter than the LandCruiser Prado (4995mm) and Kluger (4966mm).

Those dimensions are enough for Kia to create a full-size, three-row, seven-seat SUV, making it a suitable adventure-ready family car.

While detailed specs have yet to be confirmed, we do know that the EV9 promises a significant range of 483km and when connected to a 350kW charger, it will be able to replenish 80 percent of the battery in 30 minutes.

“We are actively negotiating to get as many electric vehicles to Australia as quickly as possible,” says Roland Rivero, head of product planning at Kia Australia.

“Two new EV models are coming, both E-GMP models.

“You can assume that when photos of large concept cars are almost production, the production version is just around the corner.”

It's not yet clear what parts of the concept car will go into production, including a hood-mounted solar panel, pop-up steering wheel, and a 27.0-inch display in the cabin.

However, it promises to be fast. Despite being almost five meters long and weighing several tons, Kia promises to hit 100 km/h in just five seconds.

It can also increase range quickly: The EV9 can extend its range to 100 km in just six minutes when plugged into the right charger. There are also over-the-air updates and Kia's latest self-driving technology.

So, are you ready for an all-electric SUV?
