We decided to test this on our own experience, is it true - read our real review!

An old Mercedes-Benz E-Class 1999 with a 170 horsepower engine (engines Mercedes W210), with its own jambs on the body for its age, but in general on a good configuration (decently preserved interior leather, cruise control, air conditioning, heated seats, powered mirrors), in which everything worked.

We hammer in the make, model, year of manufacture and voila, the calculator gives a preliminary estimate in the range: 195 rubles - 000 rubles, which was already embarrassing, since the range is quite high above the average market price.

Okay, go ahead, sign up for an inspection and a guaranteed sale the very next day. The site has the ability to select the date and time of the inspection, and also indicates the status of the workload of a particular CarPrice point.

  • 2 times the manager called and reminded of the documents and a clean car;
  • 1 time the robot called, once again reminded everything an hour before the visit;
  • 3 or 4 sms have come with a reminder.

Arrival for inspection

We arrive at the office, sit down with the manager, who checks the documents, and also asks additional questions about the vehicle equipment and says a lot of positive things about the fact that the ATM is nearby, everything will be cool and “loot” is waiting for you.

After registration, they invited me to drive the car into the box, and then go to the sofas - wait for the inspection. The CarPrice waiting area is quite comfortable, you can drink free tea, coffee or water, a standard set of automotive and women's magazines on the tables.

But the more important fact is that there are 2 monitors in the waiting area:

  • the first broadcasts video from a camera in the box, where they are watching your car (you can be aware of what is happening);

  • the second is the course of auctions: auctions that take place at this address are ranked in priority at the beginning of the screen (there are usually no more than 4 of them at a time), then auctions from other CarPrice offices are shown.

In some offices, the inspection takes place not in the box, but directly in the parking lot - I don’t know if there is such video surveillance there.

The inspection was done for a long time, for 40-50 minutes 2 people ran around the car 3 times, climbed around the cabin, tested everything. They start checking the operation of the engine and gearbox. Then he was invited for a test drive, that is, you have to ride down one street, and the manager at that moment will record the road on video (in order to record the sounds in the cabin from the suspension).

After that, you come back, stop at the office and go back to the sofas, waiting for the auction to begin.

Start of the auction

7-10 minutes had to wait until the manager uploads the video and the auction began, a small photo of the car, the brand name and model, the time until the end of the auction appeared on the monitor:

Each auction has 25 minutes per auction. If the bid is made at the last minute, then another 1 minute is added to the auction time, etc.

And also on the monitor is shown, attention: “how much the last rate has increased”.

In other words, you do not see how much they are now giving for your car, but only a change in the last rate, most often “+1000”, at the very beginning, the first rate may be larger.

Having tried to calculate all the bets (I stocked up with a calculator in advance) - the final bet differed from what appeared on the screen, the manager justified this by saying that everything happens via the Internet and some bets are made in one second and simply do not have time to be displayed.

After the end of the time, the manager calls you, it takes a very long time to load the results and the final rate, and while this is happening, the initial positive attitude changes and phrases like “well, you understand that you need to get rid of this crap”, “such cars are now in the market fall in price” and so on. That is, they are mentally preparing for a low price and so that the client does not refuse, but thinks that he really should get rid of his iron horse.

Suggested car price

Probably, if I don’t give here a specific proposed cost in comparison with the market one, then this review will be uninteresting and not informative, and the goal is the opposite - to tell what price they really give and whether it will be interesting for you to spend your time on it!

Therefore:

Real price range for this car in a similar configuration to Avito and Automotive News: 120-270 thousand rubles, depending on the condition.

Mid market: 150-170 thousand rubles (this was even confirmed by the Karprais manager himself).

Drumroll…

The proposed: 74000 rubles in cash and 77000 rubles by bank transfer.

An unexpected turn, it was expected that they were underestimating, but that so much - I could not imagine.

After that, there were another 10-15 minutes of debate, in which I said about the “moral bar for the price”, in the end it all ended, of course, with my refusal. I already left the office and went to the car, and then the manager caught up with me and offered to conduct the auction again, based on what might be up to your bar this time.

Launched a second time - we wait another 25 minutes. It is strange that one bid hung the entire auction and they began to interrupt only at the last minute.

As a result, the price became slightly higher: 87000 rubles, then the employee allegedly talked to the dealer, who made the final offer and knocked out the price tag of 91000 rubles, which, as you understand, is 24% lower than the LOWER PRICE of the market. Naturally, my refusal was again received.

As a result, the CarPrice employee gave his phone number, said that he would not refuse the dealer for now, if you decide today, come, everything will be in force, we will arrange everything in 15 minutes. But, of course, I didn't call back.

To summarize

I’ll make a reservation right away that there were no expectations to get a high price - everything was clear anyway, but there were assumptions that the price would be near the bottom of the market, but, unfortunately, they are discounting another 20-30% from the bottom of the market - few people will be satisfied with such a price tag.

Quite frankly, the carprice auto auction is right for you if you:

  • want to drain the car for any money and not suffer with inspections;
  • you need at least some amount of money and very urgently, that is, today.

In other cases, you are unlikely to be satisfied with the sale of the car at the price that is given in CarPrice.

And one more important addition - no promotional codes that you can enter in your personal account actually work. You will most likely be told that they have already been taken into account, but it is obvious that this is not the case, since they call you “the price that the dealer gave”, and that the dealer immediately throws a certain amount using the promotional code? Of course not!

    They had more than a year ago, lost somewhere around 20k, at that time it was 7-8% of the market price. Was basically satisfied. If we talk about the inspection, they are more interested in their appearance than something in mechanics, although there is still a cursory inspection - turn off the gas on the spot, drive 200 meters, poking the box, etc. For a quick sale, it is better to buy up or a salon, but no more.
