The C4 returns with a quirky crossover look in its only high-spec, non-electric option.

Citroen Australia has confirmed pricing and specifications for its next-generation C4, which has gone from hatchback to quirky crossover.

The new model will only come in one special 'Shine' variant with a single transmission, a 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine (114kW/240Nm) driving the front wheels via an eight-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

With a $37,990 pre-road price tag and with its newfound crossover form, the C4 Shine looks best equipped to compete with high-tech versions of the Subaru XV (2.0iS, $37,290), Toyota C-HR (Koba Hybrid, 37,665 $30) and Mazda CX-25 (G37,390 Touring, $XNUMX).

Standard equipment includes 18-inch alloy wheels, 10.0-inch multimedia touchscreen with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, 5.5-inch digital instrument cluster, dual-zone climate control, full faux leather interior, full LED ambient lighting, LED ambient interior lighting and color head-up display.

A complete safety package with automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist with lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, driver attention alert comes standard, and while there's also a suite of 360-degree parking cameras, no rear - cross traffic alert, rear automatic brake or cross-traffic assist for AEB.

The Citroen brand's future focus is on comfort, and to that end, additional features on the C4 include "Advanced Comfort Seats" consisting of a high-density layer of 15mm surface foam and electrically adjustable extra width, as well as "Progressive Hydraulic". Cushions in a suspension system that adds two hydraulic struts to smooth out common ride issues.

The only options available to C4 buyers are metallic paint (six options, $690) and a sunroof for $1490.

Elsewhere, the C4 has a 380-liter boot (VDA) and will consume 6.1L/100km on the combined cycle, requiring 95 octane unleaded petrol.

Citroen covers its cars with a five-year, unlimited-mileage warranty, and the C4 is also covered by a maintenance plan that averages $497 a year for the first five years or 75,000 kilometers.

The brand has confirmed that it will also launch its new flagship C5 X model, also a crossover, in the third quarter of 3, but has no intention of importing the Berlingo van, historically responsible for most of its sales in Australia. It will not initially import the e-C2022 electric variant either, saying the focus is on Peugeot EVs for now, but does not rule out expanding the C4 lineup in the future.

Citroen reiterated that they are committed to the Australian market despite a "challenging" 2021, with just 112 vehicles sold to date. Its strategy going forward will be to focus on passenger cars and SUVs, with the commercial space occupied by the Peugeot subsidiary.
