The LDV T60 Max is powered by a 160 liter twin-turbo diesel engine with an output of 500 kW/2.0 Nm.

LDV has targeted some big double cab players, namely the Ford Ranger XL and Toyota HiLux SR, with its new T60 Max pickup truck.

What sets the Max apart from its T60 sibling is the use of a 2.0-liter twin-turbo diesel engine that delivers 160kW at 4000rpm and 500Nm at 1500rpm.

And while performance is more than on par with flagships such as the 157kW/500Nm Ranger Raptor X, the 150kW/500Nm HiLux Rugged X, the 140kW/450Nm Nissan Navara PRO-4X Warrior and the 140kW/450Nm Mazda BT-50 Thunder , pricing was close to many entry-level 4×4 double cab models.

We'll start with the T60 Max Pro with a six-speed manual for $33,990 before travel expenses, while the three-pedal Luxe starts at $38,490.

An eight-speed ZF automatic transmission is available on both models, adding $2000 to the price.

Buyers of Australian Business Numbers (ABNs) will also be given a discount, though it's unclear exactly how much they'll save.

Fuel economy is 9.2 liters per 100 kilometers for the manual transmission and 9.3 liters per 100 kilometers for the automatic, while carbon emissions are estimated at 243 and 244 grams per kilometer.

Drive is sent to all four wheels, with each option also having 2WD, 4WD-high and 4WD-low modes, and LDV claims the T60 Max's suspension has been tuned for Australian conditions.

The T60 Max also has approach, departure and liftoff angles of 27, 24.2 and 21.2 degrees respectively, while the maximum fording depth is also rated at 550mm.

The engine provides a payload capacity of 925kg in the Pro version and 750kg in the Luxe version, and traction with brakes is 3000kg for all T60 Max classes.

Standard equipment includes LED daytime running lights, cruise control, climate control, 17-inch alloy wheels, cloth interior and heavy duty suspension.

Media control is handled via a 10.25-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth connectivity and six-speaker output.

In terms of safety, the T60 Max comes standard with six airbags, hill descent control, rear parking sensors, a reversing camera, driver fatigue warning and tire pressure monitoring.

Moving up to the Luxe level adds an on-demand rear differential lock, comfort suspension, keyless entry, push button start, an auto-dimming rearview monitor and electronically adjustable leather seats, as well as a surround view monitor and lane departure warning.

On the outside, the Luxe also features a blacked-out grille and chrome door mirrors.

The T60 Max line will also differentiate itself from the rest of the T60 line with smaller headlights, a beefier front grille, and redesigned front and rear bumpers.

The T60 Max will be sold alongside its T60 sibling, which starts at $30,516 for the Pro manual, while the Luxe and Mega Tub variants start at $35,253 and $36,831 respectively.

The automatic transmission adds $2105 to the T60's asking price.

The T60 also uses a different engine than the T60 Max, with a cheaper LDV ute fitted with a 2.8-litre turbodiesel engine delivering 110kW/360Nm to all four wheels.

Like all new LDVs sold in Australia, the T60 Max comes with a five-year warranty or 130,000 km with roadside assistance.
