Motorcycle Operation

F.A.Q.

Content

All bikes have small whims and defects, thankfully repaired by System D. Here are the most frequently asked questions to the webmaster of this site ... and the answers (not exhaustive).

1. How to remove black spots on exhaust fumes?

Use an electric plate cleaner. He's radical and doesn't eat metal (thankfully). By the way, it's cheap, especially if you steal it from your wife 😉

In the case of a really damaged and attacked pot, it is also possible to sand with water with a very fine 1200 type sandpaper and then transfer the metal product (Auator / Rivain type).

2. What is the torque wrench used for?

This allows the nut to be tightened to the torque specified by the manufacturer, often depending on the diameter. Too strong, there is a risk of breaking the thread, not enough, there is a risk of twisting under the influence of vibrations and, therefore, loss of parts, and when the wheel is not far ...

The tightening torque is kg / m, and sometimes in Nm (which is about ten times less).

For the rear wheel, the torque is 10 daNm; this corresponds to a weight of 10 kg on a 1 m arm.

3. I put on the wheel arch and has there been a strange noise on the bumps since then?

It must be the rear mudguards that touches. A wheel arch (like the Ermax) is often too large on the sides to accommodate a mudguard; on the other hand, it luckily works very well on its own. So, you should see mud flaps; but in general this is what you do when you buy a wheel arch.

4. How can you see the mud flaps to make room for the wheel arch?

The problem with Ermax is that there is only one universal guideline valid for all models. So you have to think long and hard to figure out what to cut. And at first we dare not. Of course, when it is cut, it is cut. So, to cut the bib, you need to cut the entire vertical part (plate holder and water protector) and then run the part under the saddle (about 10cm from the wheel arch shape, there is an offset for the plate in Ermax). Then it has yet to be adapted. The operation should take about 1/4 hour, except it is considered 3/4 hour before cutting: o)))

5. What changes the K&N filter?

The K&N filter is usually installed in conjunction with the Dynojet stage 1 kit. K&N filters are supplied by the American manufacturer (for a car this is the reference ...). The design is simple: 4 layers of woven cotton sandwiched between 2 steel mesh ...

Advantages:

- less resistance to the air passage than a paper filter (thus more air is allowed by the engine)

- higher filtration power than paper filter.

- clogging is slower than a paper filter ... it cleans up indefinitely, so it is reusable for life.

We get a little recovery and top speed (+ air sucked in by the engine, so more power has been developed, so a little increase in power and torque).

Disadvantages:

- mandatory cleaning with special products (sold separately), and in fresh water: without blower or vacuum cleaner, this creates holes in the cotton layers ...

- since this increases the amount of air allowed by the engine, it is necessary to reset the carburization and timing.

- costs more than a regular paper filter (2-3 times more).

- consumption, which rises slightly (on average, 0,5 liters more than 100 on high diets).

6. How to solve moisture problems?

Solution 1: DIY recipe:

  • remove coils and cables
  • thoroughly wipe all elements
  • Make a protective rubber film (inner tube) for winding rolls.
  • assemble coils + protector set
  • spray against moisture
  • close the spring roll with two tiraps
  • only remove the cables at the spark plugs to avoid maximum cable contact and rain with the engine.
  • spray with each anti-moisture revision.

2 Solution:

  • Adding a deflector behind the radiator so that water no longer splashes on cables and coils.

3 Solution:

  • treat the wiring with an anti-moisture bomb
  • or completely replace it (at least spark plug wires) with Suzuki marine wiring

7. How easy is it to start when it has been stopped for a long time?

  1. Put the tap on PRI (because the carburetors are empty),
  2. Turn off the headlights (for extra fishing),
  3. Put a dozen detours
  4. Pull the starter with full force
  5. Operate the starter (without touching the gas),
  6. Cross your fingers 😉
  7. Turn the valve back to normal after effective starting and remove the starter as soon as possible.

Note: if we know that the motorcycle will remain stopped for a long time, turn off the gasoline and wait until the engine stops to empty the carburetor reservoirs.

Solution application:

  1. connect the corresponding pipes for the carburetor drain screws,
  2. bring these pipes to the container placed underneath,
  3. open the drain screws of the reservoir, then
  4. open the gasoline for 10-15 seconds to rinse the tanks,
  5. close the gasoline, close the drain screws, unscrew the pipes,
  6. and then just try starting the engine.

8. What is carburet glaze?

Carburetor glaze is caused by the acceleration of air in the venturi. This acceleration cools down the permitted air temperature (example of a fan). If the cooling reaches a temperature close to 0 ° or negative, in combination with air humidity, it forms frost in the inlet on the butterfly. Result: The venturi section becomes clogged and starts the engine on 2 or 3 cylinders. For example, on some turbojet aircraft with 90% humidity and 3 ° C. a layer of ice forms on the air intake and develops so quickly that it is visible to the naked eye.

The carburetor kit heats the carburettors so that the carburetor body and tank are kept well above 0 ° C.

9. How do I cool my motorcycle?

Try a hairdryer on the carb for 3-5 minutes before starting it, it is radically effective. This is something that works really well, like the Suzuki Bandit, for example.

ten). Is the air box being cleaned?

The air box is equipped with cleaning. Hey yeah! From time to time, condensed water must be drained from the air box before the purge tube becomes too full because the carburetors can then suck in the air-water mixture. It fills up rather quickly in winter and in humid weather.

eleven). Why should graphite be avoided?

Graphite is an extremely hard mineral material that comes in tiny balls. When mixed with grease (or oil), graphite is an anti-friction additive because it is harder than the metal it is supposed to lubricate. Just imagine a board placed on the balls, it works well, but after a while the board will have big marks on the side of the ball. For graphite and mechanical body itou! The use of graphite lubricates well, but will lead to much faster wear. Antar made Moligraphite oil, which was to be used only during engine bypass. If it was extended without medical advice, segmentation tended to be rather diffuse and oil consumption rose sharply. So, distrust of graphite.

12). How to make the starter less rigid?

  1. Take apart the left commodo - no spring jumps, really no problem,
  2. Put the oil - liquid petroleum jelly, 3 in 1, etc. in the shell - then blast into the shell to go down to the engine,
  3. Pull the cable up - then go behind the cylinders, to the right of the engine, to then pull the other end of the cable. 5 - 6 times like this,
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3, two or three times,
  5. Go it all up
  6. It works.

13). How do I polish?

  1. Use body abrasive paper (available from Leroy) in 180, 240, 400 and 1000.
  2. Start with the smallest one to burn all the paint. It is advisable to use it wet and it is clear that it works better: o)
  3. Smooth out all scratch microphones with other sizes. And end up at Belgom Alu to make you shine!

So you can make the tank cap, footrest plates, oil cap, SUZUKI on the right body, NISSIN on the calipers and therefore the swing arm, master cylinder cap ...

fourteen). Why should a starter start?

The starter is used to enrich (+ gasoline) the air-gasoline mixture when the engine is cold ... The phenomenon is simple: the engine is cold, like the carburetors. Carburettors are made of aluminum in general, so the calories drain very well. The engine sucks the air-gasoline mixture, but due to the cold carburetors, some of the gasoline suspended in the mixture sticks to the carburetor walls and turns into gasoline droplets. Therefore the air-gasoline mixture is depleted and we do not start !! This phenomenon fades, enriching the mixture sucked in by the engine.

Then the use of the starter varies depending on where the thug is sleeping.

15). Why does the motorcycle smoke in the morning?

It's actually water vapor. Indeed, the hot gases that start from the engine and enter the exhaust gases (which are cold due to winter temperatures) = condensation, hence water vapor. In fact, hot air (gas) that enters the cold container = water vapor. When he smokes more, it means the pot is hot.

16). How to make a personal saddle?

First we go to the sadler (eg Deberne in Champigny) or his dealership. Then we choose the design and color and wait for a maximum of 2 days.

They remove the original sky, put on the hem so that the passenger stops squeezing the driver towards the tank every time he brakes. After that it is: an extra layer of padding, the bottom edge, another layer of padding, plastic to prevent water from passing through the seams, and finally thicker than the original fire-treated sky (M2 fire reaction classification procedure !!). Oh! price!? € 150 to € 400, depending on the saddle and the work done (and the saddle's ability to stay waterproof after rain: water can seep through the seams if not done well).

17). My lamps keep popping, what should I do?

If the power of the turn signal lamps changes, especially when installing smaller turn signals, this is "normal". Just replace the flashing power plant = € 30. And usually there are no more problems (assuming there are no voltage or current problems that need to be checked in advance).

eighteen). What product should I use to clean my motorcycle?

1 Super Effective Trick: Raspberry Vinegar World (So Serious). With very hot water, it cleans well, and especially beautiful remains shiny.

Use a brake degreaser to clean the engine and discs (all metal parts), it's incredibly effective! The commercial engine cleaning / degreasing bomb is the top part! Reference: Castrol Metal Parts Cleaner. Be careful not to use on plastic bites unnecessarily.

After that, personal blends come in: 25% car shampoo, 25% engine cleaner, and 50% Carrefour water. Leave the product on for 5 minutes ... avoid the dashboard (600S) and switch to carburetors very quickly. Insist on oil cooler, pot and oil filter…. Rubbing, then spraying plastic cleaner (always Crossroads) on all plastic parts: bubble, tank mat and saddle (first km it slides), discs and levers. For exhaust gases: cleaning with a cloth soaked in diesel oil (this removes tar ...). Think about smearing with leaven .. !!!! only 3 hours ...

19). How to clean your chain?

Home tip: a mixture of white alcohol and petroleum jelly oil.

Or a cloth soaked in diesel, then a dry cloth, and finally grease (such as a castrol wax chain)

twenty). How do I clean parts that have chain lubrication?

A gray bottled acetone like Casto works really well.

21). What kind of oil for a bandit?

First, the brand doesn't matter (or almost). The most important thing is what is written very small on the back of the former can: the API and the standard for synthetics. In case of frequent cold, it is advisable to take 5W40 or 10W40. In summer it is desirable to have 5W50 or 10W60. The widest possible coverage is ideal. And to make sure you have a synthesis, check for the letters G5 (namely that G4 is a semi-synthesis).

Complete user manual table.

22). How to replace fork oil?

There are two ways to change fork oil (put 20). Either we do it as a tourist (we shoot and return), or we do a complete disassembly of the fork. In the latter case, the layer is better done, the connections are appreciated and above all there is no leakage after that.

Disassemble the front wheel and remove everything associated with each vertical (brake calipers, etc.), then place the motorcycle on the wedge so that the fork does not touch (a jack is best). Then you have to unscrew the two caps on the fork vertically, fearing a spring at the bottom, and then take out everything. Finally, disassemble each plug and turn it over to empty the oil. It remains only to fill with new oil in the required volume with a graduated test tube (this should be accurate) and close everything together. In their garages, they have everything they need to suck up oil.

23). What is the ideal shock setting? - Reviews

Well, I'm in 5th position. I hardened a little because with the initial setting I found that the back tends to take up too much freedom during bituminous breaks (those of N118 in this case for those in the know). Because it runs better, the rear is more stable, it runs better in the curves without compromising the bike's comfort.

For several thousand kilometers I rode in notch 7. The bike attacks better, but the hits are more difficult.

Solo, I ride the middle mortar. Like a duo, on a notch 6 not to follow. I am psychologically at 7th in case my wife gains weight or gets pregnant. Despite the key provided in the toolbox (or because of it?), It is quite painful to change the settings; so I only set the duo settings over long distances.

Solo on notch 6, the suspension is really hard, uncomfortable and it hurts my back (we age our arteries); so I avoid.

24. What are the references to motorcycle paint colors?

There was no reference to the color of the original motorcycle paints. So there is no way to buy from your local hardware store, enough to connect to the damaged paint. These can be found at some dealers who sell joining brushes for certain models and vintage items (see correct addresses). Just indicate the model, year and color. Count about 100 francs for a touch-up pen. There is always a way to find equivalents, if not in bodybuilders: for example, for the Blue Bandit 2001 model: Dupont paint and shade: Lotus 93-96 B20 Azure Blue Met.F2255.

25. Can we fit the new bandit's saddle and shock absorber onto the old one?

No Unfortunately! The frame has been completely redesigned and the swing arm is longer. Therefore, there is no way to share the improvements of the new model with older Bandit 600 models.

26. My bandit no longer exceeds 190 km / h at full speed. How to do it?

You must take it to your dealership to adjust valve clearance and timing the carburetor.

If that's not enough: look at the candles; they let you see if the mixture is lean or not. A cruel decision could be to create 5 point sprinklers (5 hundredths of a millimeter) if the carburetor setting was not enough, especially in the case of a completely different pot.

27. My chain continues to relax. What to do?

See if the teeth have a wavy crown. If so, then it is because the channel has come to an end, if not, then this is a positive moment!

It is true that the chain being held should not relax on its own. Then the question arises as to how the chain was tightened and, in particular, whether it was done in the central stand. If not, the bike must be in a forward / reverse motion so that the chain is well positioned on the gear output gear teeth as well as on the crown.

Last Possibility: There may be a hard point on the channel that is precisely constrained at that point. This means that the chain is relaxed while driving, except for the difficult spot in question.

28. My meter vibrates. How to remove these vibrations?

The problem is related to the silent blocks, which therefore must be dismantled:

  • first of all, you must dismantle the beacon,
  • Then remove 2 or 3 screws from the bottom of the black block (neutral indicator block, turn signal) to access the inside of the block
  • From there we have access to silent blocks that we just need to tighten ...

29. How do you know if the chain is loose and how to tighten it?

First place the motorcycle on the center stand, then check the chain travel by raising and lowering the chain: it should be between 25 and 35 mm. Above 35 mm the chain is relaxed. Then check if the chain is worn by calculating the length of 20 links: the length should not exceed 320 mm.

To stretch the chain you need a 24 wrench, preferably a socket,

and loosen the rear axle nut on the left side (be careful, you need someone on the bike because the nut is well secured !!)

Then, using an Allen wrench, tighten the two screws located at the back of the arm, paying attention to the marks on each side, to adjust them in the same way, otherwise the wheel will not be in the center of the motorcycle.

Leave a little more than 25 mm, because while driving

the chain will stretch a little by itself ... Then tighten the nut.

30. Are we risking putting on anodized screws?

Attention! This type of product is not resistant to time, especially when the screws are painted. Some could not unscrew after six months and therefore had to break everything. And here is the direction of the dealership. Anything that is customizable requires more maintenance and even greater precautions.

31. How to put a bandit on the center stand?

The technique is the same as in motorcycle school, namely: the left hand holds the steering wheel, the right hand is on the planer bar under the wraparound flank, the right foot is on the power plant lever, the head is turned to the right to place the gaze into the distance, and you push all your weight on the center stand (As soon as the power plant is on the ground, feel free to fully climb onto the crutch to carry the entire body weight on it (I repeat, but this is what you need).

To undress it, I first unfold the side (in the case), then stand to the left of the bike, hold my back with my right hand and push the handlebars with a little more force from my left hand so that I can hold the bike and prevent it from diving and falling to the right.

32. How to improve the coverage of the bandit?

You can replace a 55W lamp with a 100W lamp. At 1200, 100 watts are held. At 600 it should be the same. However, it is prudent to transfer a separate 2x2,5mm2 cable from the battery by adding an additional suitable fuse and relay controlled by the original wire ending in the lamp to be installed in the fork head. This is a job, but it works.

It is also possible to add 2 small special 55W tuning projectors (Eldorauto-78-Coignières or dual optics on the Moto-Champion) that will be mounted under the fork head to see even in the corners. Above to see and see (100W in code or 100W + 2x55W in headlights). However, do not overdo it so as not to dazzle those in front. Be careful not to overload an electric beam that is not rated for this power (a motorcycle battery is not as powerful as a car battery).

33. When will the 2001 vintage Bandit come out?

Since 2000, motorcycle vintage works have been set to European time and therefore begin on January 1st of the year. Thus, Bandit 2001 will be available on January 1st: there is no way to "snag six months" 😉

34. How to remove stickers on a motorcycle?

Just take a dryer and pass it over the stickers, scraping with a nail. The heat will allow the sticker to peel off easily and especially not break into small pieces as it would otherwise be cold. Then, simply wipe off the remaining glue with a cloth containing some alcohol-type solvent to burn. Wipe well after that.

35. Can we remove the fog from the tachometer?

The most effective solution is to unscrew the tachometer and plant the silicone seal (eg an aquarium) in the light layer on the “sensitive” parts of the air (connected between the two parts of the tachometer, around the screw on the back of the tachometer, and around the counter attachment).

In any case, it is more efficient than replacing it (which also works in the warranty store and is usually free).

36. What is a 34 hp clamp? the Bandit 600?

The bandit is limited to carb bushels. Rather, it is an intelligent clamp, as it limits power from the top, but does not interfere with torque. Results, the thug reacts like an unstoppable thug up to roughly 8000 rpm. And then, nothing more, the same handle in the corner (which represents a small point of 160 km / h). Debridebride price? It varies depending on the motorcycle and can cost up to € 300; the price of four bushels is 70 euros plus an hour of labor. Usually the price of the clip should be added when purchasing as the dealer is modifying the motorcycle. In practice, he makes a commercial gesture, and the motorcycle is not more expensive. When broken, he simply counts the labor force.

37. How do I turn on the dual-code optics of the new Bandit 600S?

Well, that's not possible. The optics are different and the lamp only includes one electrode (for a full headlamp). Therefore, it will be necessary to disassemble everything, replace the optics, lamp and electrical circuit in order to have both. The result, a very expensive game with limited interest (to get attention at the time) that no dealer has ever done for their clients so far.

38. My motorcycle is a wolf at high speed. What to do?

The reasons can be several:

- tires: poor balancing or ladder wear (known for example on the MAC90)

- rear shock absorber (for tighter adjustment) or

- dead steering bearings (for replacement, overtaking and tightening).

Inspected or referred to your dealer for inspection.

39. The engine of my motorcycle suddenly stops. What to do?

Apparently some motorcycles have some ignition problems which caused some to stall without warning.

It seems that the best prevention is to let the engine warm up before leaving, carefully starter.

If this happens to you in working order, immediately disconnect and brake (otherwise the rear wheel will block and this is a guarantee of an accident). If this has already happened to you, please contact me. I'm looking for reviews: David

40. How to store a motorcycle for the winter

For the winter; There are usually several steps to be taken to properly store your motorcycle. Here's what has been tested for several years by a biker who himself was surprised by the effectiveness:

  • Wrap the motorcycle in a very large nylon bag (like a freezer bag, but very sturdy, which you can buy from Gericke),
  • Consider protecting the bag from crutches (for example, by placing a wooden wedge).
  • Put the drying crystals (dehumidifier for apartment) before closing the bag for the winter.

As a result, you no longer need to take other precautions, not plugging anything, not doing anything, oiling, emptying, etc. In the spring, just take the beauty out of her bag, put the PRI on the tap, starter and hops.
