On many new cars, manufacturers install tiny mudguards or none at all, shifting the burden to the buyer. And the driver himself decides whether to install "mud protection" or save money. Many cars, especially budget ones, leave the factory, we repeat, without mudguards (remember the once popular Opel Astra H), or with very small mudguards. As a rule, mudguards are installed by the dealer for a surcharge, or the owner installs them himself. There are even frame SUVs, like the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, which are equipped with rear mudguards, but the car does not have front ones.

On the one hand, the driver is under pressure from the traffic rules, which require that the car be equipped with rear mudguards, as they affect safety. After all, a stone that has flown out from under the wheel can fall into the windshield of the car following it. And if there is no such protection, the likelihood of running into a fine increases: according to Article 12.5 of the Code of Administrative Offenses, traffic police officers can conduct an educational conversation with the driver, or they can draw up a protocol for 500 rubles. But if the mudguards are not provided for by the design of the vehicle, the fine can be avoided.

The driver sees the benefits of installing high-quality mudguards on a long run. And now many will have such, because because of the crisis, the terms of owning a car have increased.

And over time, these places begin to "bloom".

Small rear mudguards don't solve the problem either. Formally, they are, but pebbles and dirt are poorly retained. And the shape of the bumper in many cars is such that sand flying from under the wheels accumulates in its lower part. And there is the wiring for the fog lamp or reversing lights. As a result, the “porridge” of sand and road reagents will literally “eat through” the wiring. So close to a short circuit. So you need to install large mud flaps: then the body will not be covered with rusty spots ahead of time, and the drivers of other cars will say thank you.
