What is harmful driving at high speed on the highway
Content
Either to save time or just for the thrill of it, many motorists abuse the speed limit. At the same time, without thinking much about how this affects the condition of the car, fuel consumption, wallet and security. Let's consider each indicator separately.
High fuel consumption
In 1996, the Swiss magazine "Automobil Catalog" published the results of measuring fuel consumption as a function of speed. The results are truly amazing. The flow difference can be 200% or more.
Dozens of cars participated in the experiment. So, for example, a 6 VW Golf VR1992 with a gasoline engine showed that at a speed of 60 km / h it spends 5.8 liters. At 100 km / h, the figure increases to 7.3 liters, and at 160 - 11.8 liters, that is, a difference of more than 100%.
Moreover, each next step of 20 km affects even more significantly: 180 km / h - 14 liters, 200 km / h - 17 liters. Few today can cover these extra 5-10 liters in the saved 5 minutes of time.
Rapid wear of components and mechanisms of a car
Yes, the car was originally designed to quickly move from point A to point B. Many even argue that the powertrain has its own calculated cruising speed, at which the car feels like a fish in water. All of this is partly true.
But, we can talk about this only if there are German autobahns, and if we plunge into our realities, then this nuance should be considered through the prism of domestic roads. The latter cause the greatest harm to tires, shock absorbers and the brake system.
When driving at high speed, the friction of rubber on asphalt increases as proportionally as fuel consumption. The protector heats up and loses its rigidity. This is especially true for the rear wheels, which is why you will have to change tires more often.
Shock absorbers on our roads (due to the lack of a spreading pillow) work more than in the same Europe. At high speed, due to constant bumps, they work constantly and with a larger amplitude. This can lead to the fact that the liquid with which they are filled can foam and the entire element will be replaced.
There is no point in talking about brakes. Everyone understands that stopping a speeding fireball takes more resources. If you move in the stream at cruising speed, you will only have to use the brakes at regulated intersections.
Fines
You can move around the city at a speed of 60 km / h. In this case, the excess of the regime can be maximum +19 km / h. That is, above 80 km / h is a fine. Of course, many people know where it is possible to exceed and go unpunished, and where not.
However, now private traders with their fixation cameras are operating on the roads, and where they will be tomorrow is unknown. Plus, in major cities, new cameras are installed every day, so you can’t guess here.
For driving at a speed of 99 km / h in 2020, they will be fined 500 rubles. From 101 to 119 - 1500, from 120 - 2500 rubles.
High chance of an accident
And, of course, it is impossible not to mention the high probability of an accident. All the drivers, the wreckage of whose cars flaunt on the roadsides, were sure that they were professionals and the accident was not about them. Nevertheless, an accident with constant abuse of the speed limit is a matter of time, nothing more.
Conclusion: an extra 5 minutes of time costs about 5 liters of gasoline, more frequent replacement of tires, shock absorbers and brakes, payment of fines and, the saddest thing, sometimes lives. And as statistics show, more often than not the perpetrators of the accident become victims.
