Chery J11 recalled due to fuel fire risk

Chery J11, released in 2009 and 2010, has been recalled in Australia.

Fuel pump fire hazard forces Chery J11 recall

Australian car importer and distributor Ateco has recalled a Chinese-made Chery J11 small SUV due to a fire risk.

The malfunction is related to the fuel pump brace, which can crack and cause fuel to leak, which can lead to a fire.

The recall concerns Chery J11 vehicles manufactured between March 27, 2009 and December 29, 2010, totaling 794 vehicles.

The Chery J11 has experienced a series of setbacks since its arrival in Australia in 2011.

An Ateco spokesperson told CarsGuide that no incidents, accidents or injuries were reported due to the malfunction and that the recall is voluntary and precautionary.

Ateco has contacted the owners and will replace the fuel pump with a new version free of charge.

The Chery J11 has experienced a series of setbacks since its arrival in Australia in 2011.

It started off with a shaky start with a two-star ANCAP crash safety rating. This led to a recall for improved side impact protection, but the two-star rating was never upgraded. J11 was recalled again in 2012 after the discovery of asbestos in gaskets.

The J11's time in the Australian new car market was temporarily shortened in 2013 due to a lack of stability controls in the face of modernized Australian design regulations.

The addition of a stability control system in 2014 saw the J11 return to Australian showrooms, but imports ended shortly thereafter due to distribution issues.

There are several models left in dealerships, none of which are affected by the current recall.
