Chevrolet Colorado 2022: The pickup that beats Jeep, Honda and Toyota

The 2022 Chevy Colorado offers a plethora of options and configurations, and it's great for buyers. The diesel engine, premium trims to meet all needs, and the ZR2 off-road model are powerful advantages that outperform the competition.

The 2022 Chevy Colorado is one of the best midsize trucks on the market. Some reviewers even rate it as the best model available. Compared to the competition, it does a better job at some important things. The 2022 Chevy Colorado outperforms other midsize trucks in three key ways. Buyers and pay close attention.

2022 Chevy Colorado Has a Great Diesel Option

The diesel engine is one of the main reasons MotorTrend put the 2022 Chevy Colorado at the top of its list. The diesel engine, not available on other models, is a great engine for many buyers. Not only does it provide long lasting power, but it delivers better fuel economy than many similarly powerful options. The Chevy Colorado has three different engines to choose from.

Three Chevy Colorado engines: 2.5-liter four-cylinder, 6-liter V3.6 and 2.8-liter four-cylinder diesel. Its diesel variant develops 181 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. In addition, it uses inline-four cylinders with two overhead camshafts, direct injection and more. While it's not available on all models, we're glad it's an option for those who want or need it.

Chevy Colorado: another version to suit all needs

Sometimes different vehicle configurations can be a bit confusing. However, a large number of options is always welcome. This means that customers can always get exactly what they want to meet their personal needs. For starters, the 2022 Chevy Colorado can come with three different cab and body configurations. It is an extended cab with a long bed, a double cab with a short bed, or a double cab with a long bed.

After that, customers must choose which of the four different models suits them. Options: Work Truck, LT, Z71 or ZR2. Everyone can get one of the cab and body configurations, and engine options change depending on the choice of the buyer. For example, a short bed double cab work truck may only have a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, while a long cab LT double cab only comes with a 6-liter V3.6 engine.

The ZR2 version does a great job of off-road riding.

According to Car and Driver, it not only has excellent off-road capabilities, but also the best version of the Colorado. For $43,745, owners get the most exclusive and versatile version of the midsize truck. Exclusive equipment includes spool dampers, electronically locking differentials on both axles, and lift and extension. CAD recommends crew cab due to larger rear seat and V engine instead of diesel.

The more expensive version of the ZR2 has rear suspension with special shock absorbers, larger off-road tires and wider fenders. Unique front and rear bumpers and bed upholstery dusting are also included in the top trim. While other midsize trucks offer off-road versions, they don't offer as much as the Colorado ZR2. Some, like the Honda Ridgeline, don't have off-road specific trim (yet). In 2021, KBB even named the 2 Chevy Colorado ZR2021 the best SUV among titans like the Ram TRX and F-150 Raptor.
