Cleaning the idle speed controller on the BMW E34

As they say in the well-known cartoon “calm down, just calm down!))” Yes, when you clean the idle speed regulator for the first time without removing the intake manifold, of course, you will rub the bump on your arm (you will soon understand how)), your back will hurt, and your hands will stain your elbow. But I am sure: in a couple of hours you will manage and be pleased with yourself).

I will not describe the symptoms of a faulty IAC. In addition, they may recur with symptoms of other dysfunctions. But if you suspect that you have an M50 IAC in Pyaterochka, then it's time to prepare a fresh can of carb cleaner, an ordinary straight screwdriver and a wrench with a 10 head.

This is how it all looks when the corrugation is removed and the throttle is lowered

Removing the idle speed control BMW E34 M50

In general, we remove the corrugation of the air supply to the generator (if you still have it). We then removed the small crankcase breather hose running from the thick hose on the valve cover to the corrugation in front of the throttle. We remove the hose from the second beak of the corrugation, which comes out of the XX regulator itself. Now, using a straight screwdriver, unscrew the clamps that secure the air meter corrugation to the throttle and remove the corrugation. Then we throw out the throttle sensor chip (pay attention to the metal bracket on the chip - you need to press it so that the chip comes out). We take the aforementioned head at 10 and release the accelerator. We unscrewed only 4 bolts without removing a single throttle hose.

All of the above can be done in 5 or 3 minutes, because everything is simple there). But it's harder now.) From the side of the oil cup, we take it out with our left hand under the manifold and disconnect the IAC chip. And do not forget about the metal bracket on the chip, like the one that was on the throttle. Otherwise, we will not achieve anything.) We removed the chip and now we can look under the collector.

This is what the IAC looks like under the manifold

From the idle speed controller on the BMW E34, we have two hoses. The one that runs longer from the lower IAC channel and enters the air corrugation from the DMRV to the throttle. And we have already unscrewed this hose from the side of the corrugation. Now, to make it easier to remove it from the IAC, we need to unscrew the second hose coming from the IAC to the intake pipe behind the throttle. To do this, take a flat screwdriver and unscrew the clamp at the base of the IAC by touch.

You can simply pull out a plastic pipette from the manifold (this is what goes inside the manifold itself and over which this hose is pulled. In this case, we will have an IAC with hoses sticking out in different directions. In this case, pulling out this device will be very inconvenient, yesterday was on this, made sure.

I recommend removing the small hose from the IAC while the part is still under the manifold. Well, in the photo you noticed that the idle speed controller on the BMW E34 itself, through a special rubber ring, is placed on a metal rack. When the hoses are removed and the IAC chip is also installed, we simply pull the IAC towards the long hose that went into the corrugation from the MAF to the throttle.

But if we had not removed the second hose, we would not have been able to pull the IAC in this direction. With two IAC hoses, you need to pull from under the throttle mount from below. But take my word for it: if possible, it is best to unscrew the small hose under the throttle. With all the shortcomings of this operation, it is easier than removing the IAC with two hoses.

I removed the IAC with two hoses, but it’s better to remove it by first unscrewing the small hose that is still under the manifold

Reading the idle speed regulator BMW E34 M50

Here we just raise our IAC and look into the hole, on the spikes of which the hoses were put on. In this hole there is a kind of gilt - a curtain, which should hang freely with intensive swaying of the IAC. If it doesn't move, the device definitely needs cleaning. Most likely, your car's IAC has never been cleaned, and the guillotine is stuck in one position. And there is no need for flattery with a screwdriver.

Now we just take a bottle of carbohydrate cleaner in our hand and fill the guillotine without saving on liquid. Pour, pour, pour until the party turns sour and starts to walk easily. In my practice, I even cleaned the IAC twice)) I can say that even a very acidic regulator will definitely muffle the carburetor cleaner. After cleaning with carb cleaner, you can spray the IAC and bucket; this will lubricate its interior to some extent and prevent the curtain from souring after cleaning. And I had a case when, after a winter parking in a garage, in a car where the IAC was cleaned in the fall, in the spring it just turned sour. Therefore, it is quite possible to blow a bucket into an already clean regulator.

The assembly is carried out in the reverse order, and as practice shows, it is easier to assemble all this than to disassemble it. I understand that this may not be easy to read and is very hard to see under the manifold. But you feel it.) I am sure that everything will work out for you and the second time it will be easier and easier for you. Dare).
