Cleaning clays for cars: what is it, how to apply and store, overview

Many manufacturers pack clay in plastic containers. It is undesirable to get the polymer out of this package for a long time, otherwise it will simply dry out. If the container is not available, you can use a regular plastic bag that is tightly closed. Any container that closes tightly and does not allow air to pass through is also suitable for storage.

Car detailing involves cleaning the body, for which you can use special clay. The polymer allows you to remove from the surface even those contaminants that a conventional car wash cannot cope with. Clay for detailing is selected depending on the degree of pollution of the vehicle.

Concept

Clay for detailing is a special synthetic composition that allows you to clean the most stubborn dirt. The polymer is also used to clean windows and wheels.

When used correctly, car cleaning clay practically does not touch the paint surface, but glides over the body, thanks to the addition of a special lubricant. That is why the paintwork does not deteriorate and is not erased, but the stubborn dirt disappears.

Clay for car detailing has already become more popular than abrasive polishing due to the speed of processing and the fact that it does not spoil the paintwork (paintwork). Almost all other cleaning options involve the use of chemicals that do not immediately, but spoil the surface of the vehicle.

After detailing with polymer clay, the smoothness of the paint increases so much that even with careful polishing of the car for several hours with conventional means, a similar effect cannot be achieved.

Gradation

Clay for detailing differs depending on the cleaning properties of the clay and the composition:

  • Heavy is the most aggressive variety, experts do not recommend the frequent use of this polymer. It copes with the most difficult dirt, but with regular use can damage the paintwork. Motorists often use "Heavy" to polish windows or wheels - these parts of the vehicle do not suffer from an aggressive polymer;
  • Medium - less aggressive cleaning clay for cars. The texture is dense, elastic, the polymer allows you to cope with stubborn dirt. This version of the cleaning clay has little to no effect on the paintwork, but experts still do not recommend using Medium regularly. It is desirable to carry out subsequent polishing of the car after using the polymer;
  • Fine is the softest clay sample that can be used on a regular basis. Suitable for removing stubborn dirt on the body, but copes with them worse than the "Heavy" and "Medium" options.

Universal sample - Medium. It is more supple and softer than Heavy, but more effective than Fine.

How to use

In order not to spoil the details of the machine, you must adhere to the following rules:

  • before use, the car body must be thoroughly rinsed with water;
  • it is advisable to drive the car into the garage so that direct sunlight does not fall on it - cleaning clay for cars softens under the influence of high temperatures, and therefore its effectiveness will be reduced;
  • the treatment room should be cool so that the spray does not evaporate after application;
  • before starting work with clay, it is necessary to treat the car body with a special lubricant (in several layers). As soon as the lubricant begins to dry, a second layer should be applied, then it is allowed to apply the polymer.

After several approaches, you need to run your hand over the car, make sure that the surface is smooth and as clean as possible. If dirt remains, then cleaning must be repeated again or a more aggressive composition should be chosen for the next time.

At the end of work, the machine must be wiped with a microfiber towel to wipe off the lubricant remaining on the body. If the clay becomes contaminated after falling to the ground, it is not recommended to use it, since it will contain a large amount of “crumbs”, which, if it gets on the car, will ruin the paintwork. At the end of the procedure, the car must be thoroughly rinsed with water.

How to store

Many manufacturers pack clay in plastic containers. It is undesirable to get the polymer out of this package for a long time, otherwise it will simply dry out. If the container is not available, you can use a regular plastic bag that is tightly closed. Any container that closes tightly and does not allow air to pass through is also suitable for storage.
