Test drive Chrysler 300C Touring SRT8: Gangster station wagon

SRT stands for a kind of AMG, but in an American way. With its 6,1-liter V8 engine producing 430 hp. v. heavily modified Chrysler 300C Touring SRT8 is one of the most pompous station wagons the world has ever seen. Moreover, the modification offers an even more authentic American character than its "standard" counterparts.

It's impressive, cruel to the extreme, and most importantly, it has a fantastic V8 engine under its long hood. This car not only recreates the atmosphere of the classic Musclecar in an incredible way, but also does it in an extraordinary cultural way. On the basis of the 5,7-liter V8, the guys from SRT have worked out the tricks of the classic tuning. Larger pistons, higher compression ratio, new camshafts. Adequate power at a lower price point.

Musclecar in combi format

Just a more solid throttle is enough, and even the last critic of such cars will be silent for a long time, if only because it will not be heard against the background of the monstrous rumble of the V8 and in every possible way crushing acceleration. The 100 km / h limit is overcome in just 5,4 seconds. In addition, Chrysler happily stretched the long nose of its car, well ahead of conventional rivals because the electronic speed limit is only engaged at 265 and not 250 km / h. The harmonic five-speed automatic transmission also contributes significantly to the excellent transmission performance.

The car that could not leave you indifferent

Compromises are observed only in fuel consumption (in the test it averaged 17,4 liters per 100 km) and in ride comfort. The tight lowered suspension adjustment and 20-inch wheels with low profile tires resulted in rather rough bumps such as lateral joints. But the huge station wagon pleasantly surprises with its excellent maneuverability on sections with a lot of turns.
