What most often breaks in a car in winter

The fierce cold has not struck yet, but winter is gradually coming into its own and December is already on the nose. For those car owners who have not yet had time to prepare their “swallow” for the cold season, it is still not too late to do this, and therefore the AvtoVzglyad portal reminds which “organs” in the car most often catch cold in the winter.

Frost is not only detrimental to human health, cars also malfunction at low temperatures. At a minimum, it can be a harmless "runny nose", but more serious ailments are also possible.

Гидравлика

Even the most frost-resistant solutions thicken and become more viscous at low temperatures. Hydraulics loses its properties and thereby causes irreparable harm to the most important mechanisms, components and assemblies, which often fail in winter. This applies to the oil in the engine and gearbox, brake and coolant in the relevant systems, lubrication of the suspension joints, the contents of the shock absorbers and hydraulic booster, and, of course, the electrolyte in the battery. Therefore, in a cold car, all hydraulic systems that are not warmed up to operating temperatures work with an enormous load, and this must be taken into account every frosty morning when driving. It is especially dangerous when the technical fluid is old and of poor quality.

Rubber

Recall that not only tires and windshield wipers are made of rubber. This material is used in suspension bushings to dampen vibrations between parts. Protective anthers and gaskets are made from the rubber compound to ensure tightness in units and assemblies, as well as pipes used in various hydraulic systems of the car.

In severe frost, rubber loses its strength and elasticity, and if it is already old and worn out, dangerous cracks appear on it. As a result - loss of tightness and failure of hydraulic systems, components, mechanisms and assemblies.

Plastic

As you know, the interior of each car is made using plastic elements, and this material becomes extremely brittle in the cold. Therefore, every time you cheerfully jump behind the wheel on a frosty morning, you should be careful in handling the steering column switches, door handles, manual seat adjustment levers and other small plastic elements. Going on a journey in a cold car, do not be surprised why suddenly, on every slightest bump and hole, the frosty interior in different corners bursts into a sonorous creak. In addition, for the same reason, fender liner and mudguards easily break in severe frost.

LKP

The more energy and effort we put into the work of a scraper to free the car body from compressed snow and frozen layers, the more serious the damage to its paintwork. Chips and microcracks form on it, which eventually become foci of corrosion. Therefore, it is better not to spoil the body and generally forget about the scraper - let the ice on the paintwork thaw by itself. By the way, this also applies to glass, which is also better not to scratch, but to be patient and warm it up with a stove.
