What to do if the car air conditioner suddenly stops cooling the interior

With the onset of summer, the climate systems of the car are literally worn out. However, the beginning of the hot season does not go smoothly for everyone. If, in anticipation of dry asphalt and fine days, the car stood for a long time, then some unpleasant metamorphoses could occur with the air conditioning system. As a result, freon leaks and system failure. The AvtoVzglyad portal found out how to independently determine that the most comfortable car option is losing cooling gas.

Air conditioning or a more advanced climate control system is one of the best inventions of mankind, which has found wide application in cars. Cold air flowing from the deflectors allows the driver and passengers to comfortably stay in the cabin even in the heat. At the same time, the windows of the car remain closed, and dust from the road and exhaust gases do not enter the passenger compartment. What can we say about those people who do not tolerate heat well - for them, an air-conditioned car is a real salvation.

However, if you drive a car exclusively in the summer season, then during the period of inactivity of its systems, including the climate system, they may lose their tightness - without loading and circulation of working fluids, seals and pipes tend to dry out. In addition, the air conditioner radiator may be damaged. Ultimately, the freon that fills the cabin's air conditioning system leaves it, leaving the driver and passengers alone with the heat. What to do?

If you have problems with the air conditioner, you can go to a service center, or you can try to diagnose a gas leak from the system yourself.

If you feel that insufficiently cooled air is blowing from the deflectors, first of all, it is necessary to conduct a thorough inspection of the air conditioner radiator or, in other words, the condenser for damage. Stones and small debris flying from the road can cause cracks and micro-holes to appear in it. And this is enough for the freon to begin to evaporate.

As a rule, the damaged area gives out an oil smudge (the lubrication of the system comes out along with the freon). If a leak is found, then in order to restore the system's performance and its tightness, it is necessary to replace the part.

Cracked seals and nozzles can be detected with an ordinary soap test. Summer residents often use this method when they connect a gas cylinder to a stove. Soap is applied to the place where the gas supply is attached to the cylinder, and if it bubbles, then tighten the nut or unscrew the connection and replace the gasket. With an air conditioning system, a soapy solution works in exactly the same way. Apply to the connection, and if the bubbles go, the leak is found. The main thing is that there is at least some pressure in the system. Otherwise, the test will fail.

Another method for determining freon leakage is to add fluorescent paint to it when filling it, which in ultraviolet light will give a gap in the system.

However, if you are not going to repair the climate system and fill it with freon yourself, it is better to pay for diagnostics to specialists who will quickly determine the cause of the loss of gas and eliminate it.
