What if the interior heating does not work?

In modern cars, the heating system is aimed at different elements of the cabin: windshield, side windows, seats, steering wheel and directly to passengers. In the latest generation of convertibles there is even a point heating, for example, for the neck and shoulders of the driver and passenger.

The task of the heating system is to maintain a pleasant system in the cabin and in the cold season. Another function is to prevent the windows from fogging up, for example, when driving with the windows closed when it rains in the summer.

Heating system device

 This system is connected to the engine cooling system. It has its own radiator and fan, which can be used simply to supply cold air to the interior. Antifreeze circulates inside the nozzles.

If desired, the driver can switch to recirculation, which shuts off the air supply from the outside, and uses only the inside of the machine.

Heating malfunctions and solutions

When it comes to heating failure in a car, there can be different reasons.

1 fault

Firstly, it could be a fan problem. In this case, you can check the fuse. When it is faulty, the thin wire in it will be broken or the case will be melted. Replace the fuse with an identical one with the same amperage.

2 fault

Heating may also stop working if the engine coolant is leaking. Heating is left without the necessary circulation, and it becomes cold in the cabin. When replacing the coolant in the heating radiator, an air plug may form, which can also impede the free movement of antifreeze.

3 fault

Modern cars in addition to air heating have electronic heating. For example, rear window heating quickly removes fogging and frozen ice on the outside of the window.

A similar function is available on the windshield. Heated wiper area provides quick and safe for gum wipers removal of ice and snow. These options are very important for improving visibility in difficult conditions.

Basically, these elements are represented by a thin film with wires extending across the pasted surface. If you are inaccurate when transporting oversized cargo with sharp edges, you can easily break the thin wiring, from which the heating will stop working.  

If the electric heater does not work, but the film is intact, the problem may be a fuse. Check the fuse box and replace the defective element if necessary.

4 fault

Heated seats have the task of warming your body on cold days. Heating can be controlled using a button, temperature controller or the car's electrical system. If it stops working, you should check the fuses or electrical connectors under the seats. This is not always possible, except in a service center.

5 fault

The task of static heating is to warm up the passenger compartment and the engine before starting. Its advantage is that you can enjoy a pleasant temperature while warming up the engine, without waiting for the temperature to rise in the large cooling circle of the internal combustion engine.

With static heating, the cold phase of the engine is reduced. Static heating operates on the same fuel that is used to operate the motor. It is controlled by a timer. If the heating stops working, check the fuses for the timer and the static heating control unit. In most cases, this is done at a service center.

6 fault

Heated exterior mirrors also work from the vehicle’s mains. With fogged mirrors you will not be able to see well, and in winter you will have to clean them from ice and snow. If the heating does not work, in most cases it is again a matter of fuse.

7 fault

Neck and shoulder heating is used only in roadsters and convertibles. In this case, the electrical system of the car and fans are activated. If it stops working, the best advice is to visit a service center. Finding the cause in the chair itself is hardly the easiest task in the world.

When the heating stops working, it can cause an emergency. In most cases, the fault can be easily fixed. The fuse box in most cars is located under the dashboard. You will find the exact location in the operating instructions for your vehicle.
