What to do if the license plate of the car is damaged
A state registration plate on a car that has been damaged for one reason or another is not yet a reason to immediately run and order a new one. You can get by with less expensive methods.
License plates of cars, although they are made of metal and covered with “plastic” paint, fail from time to time. The coating can be spoiled by an overly zealous car wash. Or a stone flying from the road will peel off some of the paint. In the end, you can unsuccessfully "meet" in the parking lot with a snowdrift, under which a concrete block or steel fence is hidden. In any case, the “readability” of the GRZ will suffer and the roadside policemen will have a legitimate reason to complain to you about this.
The simplest option is to swap the front and rear GRZ. This method is applicable when the front license plate is damaged (for example, from flying stones), and the rear one is like new. The fact is that a traffic police patrol standing on the side of the road sees the head of the car, and the trunk of a vehicle that has already passed by rarely attracts the attention of servicemen. Another option to restore the original appearance of the license plate is to order a new one from a specialized company. But this, first of all, is not always possible to do quickly. After all, you can damage it on a long journey, finding yourself in a situation: you need to go further, and the number is unreadable. On the other hand, ordering a room costs money - 800-1000 rubles for one "tin". The question inevitably arises: can you restore the battered GRP yourself? Let's say right away that the law does not contain a direct ban on tinting a license plate.
However, Article 12.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses threatens for “driving a vehicle ... with state registration plates modified or equipped with devices or materials that prevent identification, or allow them to be modified or hidden” 5000 rubles a fine or deprivation of “rights” for 1-3 months. And "illegibility" is defined simply: whether the license plate corresponds to GOST or not. Based on this, we can conclude that it is clearly not worth tinting the white background of the GRZ with ordinary white paint. The fact is that it has reflective properties, which are unlikely to be reproduced in an artisanal way.
But with the black numbers of the number, everything is not so scary. If the driver has not changed either the shape or the color of these squiggles, then even from a formal point of view, there should be no complaints against him. In this case, the tint "does not modify", "does not impede" or "does not interfere" with the identification of the GRZ. And the price of the issue with self-refreshing letters and numbers on the registration plate is much more acceptable than ordering a new one. The easiest way is with a waterproof permanent marker with a wide tip. Cheap and cheerful. Supporters of more perfectionist solutions can be advised to use black enamel type PF-115. Connoisseurs advise using a cigarette filter, half-peeled from the wrapper, as an impromptu brush. In this case, it is recommended to stick strips of paper along the border of white and black areas - in order to be accurate in your “drawing”.
