Visibility

Pedestrian walking in prohibited areas is, unfortunately, a constant practice. Pedestrians, wanting to save time, take shortcuts in prohibited areas and risk getting hit by a car. That is why we must constantly watch the surroundings of the road and be prepared for the fact that at any moment someone may step in front of our hood, advises Zbigniew Veseli, director of the Renault Safe Driving School.

Especially during the fall months, when it gets dark quickly and the weather is sometimes foggy, it may be harder for us to see a pedestrian crossing the road or walking along the side of the road. Unfortunately, few of them put on reflective elements after dark to be clearly visible to drivers, not realizing that such irresponsible behavior increases the risk of being hit. Pedestrians are required to wear reflectors at night and outside of built-up areas. In the absence of reflective elements, you can pay a fine from 20 to 500 PLN.

Where to go?

The law clearly regulates where you can cross the road. It is allowed to cross the street outside the pedestrian crossing, if the distance to the nearest of them exceeds 100 meters. Then, if it does not interfere with the movement of vehicles and does not subject drivers to heavy braking, the pedestrian can cross the road. Otherwise, crossing the street in a prohibited place may result in a fine of up to PLN 500.
