What should be in a car tool kit?

It seems we are finally used to carrying a first aid kit and a fire extinguisher in a car. We buy them on the one hand, because we know that they can save our lives, and also because we know that they are mandatory, and during the audit, without them, we will be fined by the traffic police.

But what about the tools we need to have on hand in a car?

What should be present in the car tool kit

We often forget about them, and when they are needed (and this inevitably happens), it turns out that we have one or two already rusty screwdrivers and wrenches, which do no good.

In order not to suddenly stop on the road, without tools and without any opportunity to help yourself, this is what should be present in the tool kit of each car.

Jack

This tool is a must for any car, and even if you can’t do the repair at all, let the jack be in your car, and if not, some kind Samaritan who wants to help you use it for its intended purpose.

Why do you need a jack?

Practically this tool is very useful for all car chassis repairs. You will need a jack if you need to drain the oil from the crankcase, fix the gearbox problem, fix the muffler, change the tire and do many other things.

Which jack to buy?

Usually in car tool kits there are screw jacks, but since they are rather weak and uncomfortable, we advise you to search and buy a hydraulic jack. Hydraulic jacks are sold in almost every store, their price is not high, and the work they do is great.

Stands / Stands

Stands are often offered complete with hydraulic jacks, but if when buying a jack it turns out that there are no stands for it, buy it.

Why do you need stands?

They provide greater stability to the car when you lift it onto the jack and you can work more calmly. Although the struts are a supplement, we recommend them, as they are really useful when you lift the car on a jack.

Ring wrench set

This tool should also be present in the automotive tool kit.

Why do you need such a set?

Inside are wrenches that are used to tighten all types of nuts on the car, from engine nuts to tire bolts. When turning accurately, avoid nuts deforming, spinning, or breaking.

The keys are calibrated in certified laboratories, and you can be sure that you tighten the bolts or nuts without any problems and without the risk of their deformation.

Spanners

A set of wrenches is a must in your car, because without them it will be difficult to repair anything in your car. These keys are usually sold as a set, they are multifunctional, and if you do not buy the cheapest set, in practice you can safely pass them on to future generations, your children and grandchildren, to use them long after you leave. So investing in a quality set of wrenches is worth it.

Clamping and sealing brackets / clamps

In a tool kit for a car, it is good to have at least two types of clamps - large and small diameter. You never know when you'll need to tighten the rubber tubes that connect the radiator to the engine's water cooler, or when you'll need to deal with a hose or rubber duct.

What kind of clamps?

Simply put, these are small steel strips that are tightened with a gear mechanism.

Screwdriver Set

Screwdrivers are always useful, which is why we recommend adding a complete set of quality screwdrivers to your car tool kit. If you do not want to spend money on the whole set, then be sure to buy at least one ordinary, cross and one “asterisk”.

Foot pump

You may not believe this, but sometimes the foot pump can save you a lot of problems and at least get to the nearest gas station to restore the pressure of one of the tires.

Ignition cables

Cables come fully loaded and can also save you a lot of problems.

Why do you need ignition cables?

It is often difficult to start a car, especially in the colder months, especially if the battery is low. If you have ignition cables, you can easily wake up the battery and start up without problems.

This is why cables are one of the things that should be present in an automotive tool kit.

Flashlight

A good flashlight will always be useful in your car. In addition to helping repair a car on the road, a flashlight will also be useful if you want to light something, if you are in a forest, in a tent or somewhere else at night.

Long shoulder

This tool will be used to loosen a bolt or nut that is located in hard-to-reach places or requires a tougher force.

You can do without this tool, but if it is present in the tool kit, you can process bolts and nuts that are difficult to unscrew, much faster and easier.

Snow shovel

A snow shovel is often an underrated tool, especially in areas where snowfalls are not very frequent and snow cover is very rare. However, a shovel is a prerequisite, especially in winter, because you never know when you wake up one morning and your car is buried in the snow.

In addition to these basic tools that should be present in the car kit, it is useful to add a breadboard knife, a tape roll, a hammer, a screwdriver for measuring the power source, a test lamp, several spare fuses and bulbs, saws, bolts, nuts.

Tool storage box

After you have collected all the necessary tools, you will always need to store them somewhere so that they do not interfere with you in the car. To do this, you can buy a good tool box and put them there. Thus, whenever you need to use a tool, you can quickly and easily find it and begin repairs.

Electric hoist and cable

They are optional, but you never know when you get stuck on the road or when you have to help a colleague who is in trouble. That’s why it’s good to look at the offers of stores and purchase an electric winch that can be attached with tools to the machine.

Winches cost a little more, but your peace of mind on the road is priceless, so consider buying this tool. Believe me, the investment is worth it.

If you still don’t feel like spending money on an electric winch, be sure to take the tow rope and never remove it from the machine.
