What is more important sign or markup

Usually, road signs and road markings completely duplicate each other or complement each other without conflicting. However, sometimes there are situations when a contradiction is still observed, for example, during road works, large accidents, during special operations or exercises at nearby training grounds.

If you clearly see that the markings and road signs contradict each other, then you should not worry and think about how to act in this situation. The road rules have all the answers to the questions that arise.

What is more important sign or markup

First, it should be clearly understood that road signs are temporary and permanent. After the latest changes in the SDA, temporary signs are displayed on a yellow background and they take precedence over permanent signs.

Secondly, the markings can also be permanent - applied with white paint on the asphalt, and temporary - orange. Temporary marking takes precedence over permanent marking.

Thirdly, a road sign is always more important than markings.

Thus, the following picture emerges in order of priority:

  • signs on a yellow background - temporary - their requirements are met in the first place;
  • permanent signs - they are more important than both permanent and temporary markings;
  • temporary marking - orange;
  • constant.

Many different situations can be cited when signs and markings come into conflict with each other. For example, the presence of a permanent solid marking indicates that it is impossible to cross it, that is, overtaking and any maneuvers with exit to the oncoming one are prohibited. However, if there is a sign “Obstacle avoidance on the left” at the same time, then you can easily neglect the markup requirement and not be afraid that you will be fined for non-compliance with traffic rules.

What is more important sign or markup

If, for example, there is a sign “end of the no-overtaking zone” and a solid marking is applied, then this indicates that it is forbidden to drive into the oncoming lane to overtake, since this sign does not allow overtaking, but only indicates the end of the prohibition zone. That is, in this case, the sign and markup complement each other. If in this case a marking was applied that allowed driving into the oncoming lane, then overtaking could be done without fear of losing the rights.
