What does the convertible roof warning light mean?

The retractable roof warning light illuminates when the roof is opened or closed and flashes when repairs are required, such as cleaning or replacement.

Convertibles offer a unique driving experience that allows you to enjoy the fresh air as well as the road you are driving on. On older cars, the driver had to get out of the car to manually raise or lower the roof. Now that electronics are cheaper and more reliable, a power roof is practically standard on any convertible. As a result, car manufacturers have added a roof warning light to the dashboard.

What does the retractable roof warning light mean?

During normal operation, the retractable roof warning light illuminates when the roof is opened or closed. When this indicator goes out, it means that everything is locked and normal driving can be resumed. As a rule, the system only warns the driver about an error during start-up. If an error is detected, the computer will flash this light temporarily on startup to alert the driver that an error has been detected. The code will be saved to help diagnose the problem, but you will need a scanner to read the code. In most cases, the problem is relatively minor, such as a faulty sensor or debris stuck in the latches, but you should always investigate if it's a more serious problem.

Is it safe to drive with the convertible roof warning light on?

As previously mentioned, this light does not usually indicate a major problem, so you can continue to drive your vehicle even if it is on. If you receive a warning, the system may not allow you to raise or lower the roof, so be sure to check it quickly to enjoy fresh air again.

Be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions when raising or lowering the roof to avoid damaging the roof mechanism. If the warning light comes on when you start your convertible and you need more information on why, our certified technicians are on hand to help you diagnose any problems.
