What does the distance warning light mean?

The distance indicator turns on when your vehicle is in danger of colliding with another vehicle or an obstacle.

Active cruise control is the latest development in cruise control systems that we have been using for many years. In addition to maintaining a set speed while driving, radar sensors mounted at the front of the vehicle check to see if anything is approaching the vehicle quickly. Some active cruise control systems may apply the brakes to slow the vehicle and keep you at a safe distance from the vehicle or object ahead of you. At lower speeds, this system can also be used to detect pedestrians or bikers and warn of approaching objects or people.

It is important to understand how the proximity warning systems work with your vehicle so you know what to expect. Refer to your owner's manual for specific information on when your vehicle's distance warning is activated.

What does the distance indicator mean?

When this light is on, it means that the computer has detected a fast approaching object on the road ahead of you. It may not always be a car and a large object on the road. Keep your eyes peeled for anything on the ground if there are no cars ahead. As soon as you slowed down or passed the object, the light should go out.

Keep in mind that this system looks not only at distance, but also at how fast you are approaching an object in front of you. Even if the car ahead is a good distance away, you should still slow down as they are likely to be moving slower than you.

Typically, there are separate warning indicators to indicate that a problem has been detected. A common error with these systems is a blocked sensor. Dirt and debris adhering to the front of the vehicle may prevent the sensors from seeing and the system will be temporarily deactivated. Clean the front of the car and everything should be back to normal. If cleaning the vehicle does not help, seek the help of a qualified technician to determine the problem using a diagnostic scanner and fix it.

Is it safe to drive when the distance warning light is on?

You should try to keep the distance warning light off for as long as possible. While there is nothing you can do about trash on the road, you should always be mindful of your surroundings, especially what is in front of you. Such systems may allow drivers to lose concentration on the road, but this is not their purpose. They are supposed to help you drive safely, not drive your car for you.

Whenever you see the distance warning light come on, be especially careful and take care of yourself. If the remote warning system is deactivated due to a malfunction, our certified technicians can help you diagnose any problems with it.
