What does the low washer fluid warning light mean?

The low washer fluid indicator warns you when the windshield washer fluid needs to be checked and topped up soon.

Sometimes wipers alone are not enough to keep the windshield clean. If it's dry outside, you'll have a hard time getting dirt off your windshield without the help of a liquid. Luckily, modern cars are equipped with a small tank filled with soapy water to help clean dirt from windshields. In addition, a small amount of antifreeze can be applied to the windshield to prevent ice from forming and damaging components. This fluid is also used in headlights if the vehicle is equipped to do so.

To make sure you never run out of this fluid, some automakers install a reservoir fluid level gauge and a low washer fluid warning light on the dash.

What does the low washer fluid warning light mean?

The only function of this indicator is to inform the driver that the liquid is low and to remind him to add it. After filling the tank with liquid, the indicator should go out immediately. A faulty liquid level sensor may continue to burn even if the tank is completely full. In this case, make sure the sensor is checked and replaced if necessary.

Is it safe to drive with the low washer fluid light on?

Washer fluid is one of those things that you don't need all the time, but when you need it, you really need it! It is important to always keep the liquid in the tank and prevent it from drying out. Some seals within the system may begin to leak if they dry out too much.

Do not ignore this indicator if it comes on and always try to keep the washer fluid topped up. If the washer fluid indicator does not turn off, our certified technicians are on hand to help diagnose any problems with the washer fluid.
