What do the letters B and S mean on the automatic transmission lever

Many automatic transmission vehicles come with new options for different driving modes. These new options help us drive better.

Vehicles and their systems have changed a lot in recent years, the features we knew have changed and new features have been added.

The transmission of the car is one of those that have undergone the greatest changes. In fact, the manual transmission is slowly being forgotten, and the fact is that automatic transmissions have changed and now have features that were not there before.

Often we don't even know the functions. For example, the levers of automatic vehicles are now provided with abbreviations that we often do not know what they mean.

In other words, most of us know that P is park, N is neutral, R is reverse, and D is drive, but what S and B stand for may not be known. Many of the most modern vehicles they go with S and B on the gear lever. We assume that these are speeds, but do not know their true value.

That's why here we tell what the letters B and S actually mean on the automatic transmission lever.

What does "with" mean?

Many people think that the letter S on the gear lever means speed, but in fact S stands for Sport. Because the CVT transmission has virtually infinite gear ratios, in S mode, the car's ECM adjusts the transmission to provide the best acceleration when you hit the gas pedal hard.

So if you're feeling a bit sportier, put your car into S mode and see how the car reacts to changing throttle positions.

What does the B stand for in a car?

The letter B means brake or engine brake when shifting gears. When driving down a hilly road, it is recommended to shift the lever to mode B. This speed will activate the engine braking and your car will not free fall down the slopes and will increase all the resistance.

B-mode also helps prevent the car's brakes from being overloaded, as it takes a lot of stress off of them, helping to reduce the gear ratio.
